Listen To How An Accidental Phone Call Saved A Woman’s Life
When 28-year-old Colorado student Kenny Crater received a strange call last week from an out-of-state number he didn’t recognize, he might have been tempted to hang up. But as he listened, he learned that the woman on the other end — 70-year-old Loretta Smith of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio — had suffered a stroke and was lying, practically immobilized, on her bedroom floor.
Smith had been trying to call her son for help, but, because she fell on her left side, had trouble dialing. Crater listened as she calmly explained her situation, then called 911. Once he was transferred to Smith’s local police department, he told the dispatcher he was in need of help… for a stranger several states away.

“I have no idea who it is,” he admitted to the dispatcher. “It’s just a freaky thing that she called me at my number.” He provided Smith’s Ohio address and phone number, ultimately helping to save her life.
