Obama To House GOP: Demonizing Me Does The Nation No Good

video

Dramatic and compelling video alert! The president just wrapped up a meeting with House Republicans in which they discussed many of their differences. Critics will predictably claim that Obama was both lecturing and professorial – but the truth is that he was taking tough questions and offering a fair analysis of the toxic political environment in which he finds himself.

One of the many fascinating moments occurred when Obama chastised the GOP Reps for the unrealistically portrayal he receives. The GOP was remarkably polite listening to a chastened President in an aim to work together.

I guess Obama doesn’t remember him demonizing Bush. You get what you give pal. Had Obama ever taken the high road, he might be treated with a little more respect, but he didn’t and he still doesn’t. His pointing fingers at republicans and Bush constantly, when all he did when he was a Senator, a candidate and now president is point fingers and bash Bush.

His lowest road was the SOTU; a shameful performance for all his hyper-partisanship and then claiming he is there to bring everyone together.

For a year he held the WH and majorities in both houses and yet he blamed the republicans for his inability to pass legislation, and the lapdog media eats it up.

  • Glynnis MacNicol

Obama also says: “You may not agree with Bob Dole and Howard Baker [both of whom proposed similar health care bills in their time] — but that’s not a radical bunch…If you were to listen to the debate and frankly how some of you went after this bill you’d think that this thing was some Bolshevik plot. That’s how you guys presented it.”

I suspect that by “you guys” he’s also addressing FOX/Glenn Beck; the latter has certainly devoted many, many hours these past few months to characterizing Obama as a secret Communist/Maoist supporter.

  • dhg

Is it ok to demonize policies, radical defict busting bills, being a congressional lap dog,not recognizing the greatest needs of the electorate, sending moxed signals on military efforts…and on and on?

And yeah with Blame Bush still the Democrats main campaign point who should be or not be demonized?

  • roxsteady

Obama basically conducted a serious smack down of those idiots. He pointed out the facts without all of the spin and talking points the GOP was pushing and throughly embarrassed them. Luke Russert was just on MSNBC, “I know, you don’t watch them” but, he said that the President contacted the GOP last night and asked them to televise this and they agreed. A top Republican told Russert off the record that it was a mistake to allow the cameras. Judging by the faces of Boehner and Cantor afterwards, he was right. By the way, if you don’t believe the President about the Republicans and their deficit hawk BS, you should have checked out Rachel Maddow last night. “I know you don’t watch” but, she did this game show bit called “Pin the Debt on the Donkey” where it was revealed that the Republicans have always ran higher deficits than the Democrats. It was very informative. She even revealed what many on the left already know, which is the fact that Patron Saint Ronnie Regan tripled the deficit. THAT’S RIGHT, TRIPLED! Clips are already all over the lefty blogs and for the GOP, it’s not pretty.

  • roxsteady

By the way, Rachel also had clips of Regan blaming Carter and Bush blaming Clinton as well as Bush and other Republicans trashing the Supreme Court publically. Just thought you should be aware of those facts before condeming Obama for doing it too. Facts don’t have a bias.

Have you seen Zo’s video, Truckin’ 2010: Has Obama Set Democrats Up For a Long, Strange Trip?
    http://www.pjtv.com/v/2995

If not, I think you, and others will enjoy it. It is relevant to this thread, and your comment.

  • ChrisNH

“Demonizing Me Does The Nation No Good, so just shut up and pull that curtain back around me that Toto found. I have levers to pull and scary voices to create!”

  • roxsteady

Why don’t you check out Colby Hall’s leatest piece on this site. It’s telling.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chuck-Steele/1147844375 Chuck Steele

Well President Obama, if you don’t want to be demonized, quit acting like Satan’s spon.

  • JimW

Frankly, I’m glad Glenn Beck called out Obama for exactly who he is: a not so secret Communist/Maoist supporter. So, there you have it, Glynnis nailed the truth about Obama.

  • mcf1757

JimW you and Glen Beck are a danger to this country!

  • TinaFromTampa

Have I mentioned recently how sharp and insightful TfT is?

  • SWWT

    No one cares, Tina.

Anyway, wow. I’ve got to say I’m pretty impressed. I would hope that the republicans worked together with the president instead of the endless bashing that goes on from both sides that accomplishes nothing.

  • JimW

SWWT, I think the branches of government are set up to accomplish practically nothing.

  • SWWT

Though recent history backs up your claim, I hope your being sarcastic.

  • JimW

I’m not being sarcastic at all. James Madison said this: “The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elected, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.”

  • Jim R

We won’t be seeing this again anytime soon, unfortunately.

The Republicans just got schooled on what happens when empty, false talking points come up against facts and panache. I hope they re-run this for the next three years.

The loudest mouths on the right spewing utter nonsense are in great degree coming those that are hurt the worst by Republican greed and pandering to the rich and powerful, all while snookering the masses like in “What’s The Matter With Kansas” by Thomas Frank.

There’s a great article up on BBC you’ll never see in our vaunted “liberal” corporate media that says Obama’s biggest mistake was not talking daily about the Republican Great Depression caused by Republican greed and deregulation. Now he gets the blame from the dishonest perpetrators that brought us to the brink of disaster.

More of this please, Obama, time to take the gloves off and tell the American people who really represents their interests. Republicans have a hundred year record of fiscal irresponsibility and catering to the rich at the expense of the rest of us; time to tell America about it since they apparently don’t teach history or economics in school anymore.

  • sueNaustin

I really enjoyed it. Like Charles Krauthammer said, let’s have these twice a year!

What about that Republican from Georgia who was asking “What are we supposed to tell our constituents when we have submitted policies to you — and you & your people keep on saying we are the party of no ideas?” And Obama, he pretty much said “you propose that you can insure everybody and lower costs and lower the deficit all at the same time? I would like to see those numbers.” In other words, you can tell your constituents the truth – you have proposals that are not grounded in actuality (and then ride off on your unicorn).

Yes, Glynnis… everyone is obsessed with what Beck does, as much as you. *rolls eyes*

Geez woman… get a hobby that doesn’t involve Beck. You’re obsession is getting a little frightening.

I hope you wipe your mouth after vomiting back the left-wing talking points. Roxy, if we wanted to read KOS or the like, we would. Try thinking on your own. Oh, and if you could do it without the name calling, that would be great… thanks!

  • m

This entire thing was absolutely incredible. I love seeing conservatives whining about this.

I would say Marxism does the country no good either. Having said that, I do appreciate the president giving more than an hour of his time to answer questions from the opposition. I think this should become a regular thing for all presidents going forward.

SarainItaly: Thanks for the link to Zo’s video; I did in enjoy it.

NotsoAnonymous (posting here as TinafromTampa) – give it up; go away.

ChrisJones: It was a good first step; I’m glad the President responded to the republican’s outreach and gave them a fair amount of time. We’ll see if anything comes out of it. Right now its words, just words.

Obama needs to stop the demonizing and start acting like a President. Pointing fingers like he always does doesn’t move anything forward. His BIOB has reached it’s expiration date.

KSM trial moved from NYCity to a place yet undetermined (hopefully back to GITMO); at least Obama is reversing his decision on this. A good start at listening to the people and doing the right thing. It’s a start.

  • TfT

Self correction. I mentioned that dems had never extended an invite to Bush; but then I found this:

    —————————————————————–
This morning, Bush became the first president to attend a private policy retreat of the opposing party, mingling for half an hour with Senate Democrats as they gathered at the Library of Congress for their ritual strategy session.

    ‘Boy, He’s Really Good’
    —————————————————————–

So, the precedent had already been set; although the article I read didn’t say anything about an open Q&A.

Interesting. Bush didn’t get as much positive press as Obama does, but pubbies never do.

  • Cecelia

Despite the maneuvers such as the Cornhuskers kickback and the Louisiana Purchase, the Administration has been unable to get anything passed other than the stimulus. DESPITE having had a SUPER MAJORITY.

It’s a nice bit of political theater to go to the opposition party in order to say quit demonizing and thwarting me, but the fact is that this is a bit of revisionist history. The president failed to persuade those within HIS OWN PARTY.

Being ignored too, is the Administration’s (and the media’s) demonization of average citizens protesters, who to one degree or another, focused attention on aspects of the health care bill that may have led to the ending of the president’s super majority.

The whole bit of political maneuvering is a day late and a dollar short. It only elicits swoons for the president, from those prone to swooning over him, and elicits high-fives from the type of liberals who are chiefly motivated by disdain for Republicans.

Perhaps the White House can broker this into a reality tv show. It’s about as authentic and genuine a move as anything that’s occurred on one of those.

  • writer

It’s those darn Republicans holding everything up. I can’t wait till the day when the Dems have the majority in congress and control the White House. Then we’ll see some action.

  • Ted

Cecelia – If you only appreciated the irony in your posts. Well done.

  • Cecelia

Ted, I’d be offended AND complimented if you understood irony or what’s well done.

  • pyrope

On Mr. -Obama’s remark that demonizes him does no good, looks like he’s wrong again. He should be demonized at each and every opportunity for the miscreant he is. His policies are destructive to the United States and encourage the enemies of the United States. He is, without exception, everything that our country does NOT need. Unfortunately, the examples supporting the veracity of my opinion and remarks have become too numerous to cite. While I hate to wish away the few remaing years of my life, all I hope for is the coming of 2012 when this country can rid itself of the -Obama pestilence, and run the wierdos, whackos, socialists, communists, nazis, and traitors in his regime out of DC.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Robin-Jones/100000476959878 Robin Jones

Oh yeah. remember when democrats sponsored legislation to question pres. Bush’s U.S. citizenship?
or when they lied about he blew projected budget surpluses and started a war with a country preemptively on false intelligence about WMD-s? what about the time they rallied poor politically misinformed rich people and told them to protest on the basis Bush’s “higher taxes” when they actually received two unfunded tax cuts.

and worst of all, after the second term the liberals started lying about how the economy was tanking, and how we went from a budget surplus to 1.2 trillion in deficit’s, still engaged in two wars, one of which caused us to lose the confidence of our allies around the world, while bolstering recruitment for those who wish us harm. and a populace so craven as to rationalize torturing suspects as a value we should embrace.

oh wait … that last one was true. sorry i just wanted to see what it looks like from the perspective of self-delusion.

wow how do you guys do this stuff everyday?

  • Media Me

Cecelia , your “rebuttal” to Ted was a comment worthy of Sarah Palin herself. And she doesn’t know what she’s talking about, either.

  • Cecelia

That’s a pretty round about way of saying that you and Ted don’t have a clue, M. Meathead. I’d tell you to scroll up but you’d ask how to spell it.

  • pyrope

@Robin Jones: Tell me please how many self-avowed communists were in Mr. Bush’s White House? How many sexual perverts? How many tax cheats? How many admirers of Mao Tse Tung? How many who thought the Constitution is a “living document?” How many followers of William Ayers, Jerimiah Wright, Robert Creamer? How many claimed kooks like Fr. Pfleger as their “moral compass?” How many in the Bush White House thought it appropriate to steal the wealth of the achievers and give it to the parasites? How many kotowed to labor unions and gave them special deals as they advocated socializing our healthcare system? How many in the Bush White House followed the route taken by Josef Stalin and Adolf Hitler in nationalizing our industries? It must REALLY suck to be as niaive as you.
