Orange County, CA GOP Official Sends Email Saying Obama’s Parents Were Monkeys

video

Today’s installment of “heinous, unacceptable racism disguised as ‘jokes’” features a Republican official on Orange County, California, President Obama, and monkeys in photoshop. GOP official Marilyn Davenport is coming under fire for sending other Republican officials an email depicting President Obama as a chimpanzee, in the arms of chimpanzee “parents,” claiming, “Now you know why– no birth certificate! [sic].” Davenport is sticking to her guns, blaming the media for making too much of a fuss.

Among Davenport’s detractors (including, one would hope, “everyone else”), local news station KCAL caught up with former California Republican chairman Michael Schroder, who correctly posited: “no average person would send this out and feel comfortable with this, that this was just a joke.” Then again, Schroder also notes Davenport doesn’t come into this embarrassment with a clean slate– among the people in Orange County Republican politics she has defended are an official who sent an email with an illustration of the White House covered in watermelons and an official who opposed the installation of grass near beaches on the point that “grass attracts Mexicans.”

Nonetheless, Davenport said off-camera that she considered the email merely a “joke” and was confused as to why the media had blown the issue way out of proportion. She is still on the governing board of the county party, though one can expect that not for long.

KCAL’s report on the scandal below:

When she was first asked by western media that had traveled to kenya along with some of obozo’s handlers where her grandson was born, “You Lie!” hussein’s grandmother said, without hesitation, that he was born in a hospital in kenya. She was immediately whisked away by the obozo handlers. Fifteen minutes later she returned to face the reporters and stated then that “You Lie!” was, of course, really, really born in hawaii. For those who believe the latter, please contact me immediately – I’ve got a GREAT deal on a bridge in brooklyn just for you.

The proper way to acknowledge the death of a progressive is to not think of it as the death of a human being.
But rather think of it as the same way you would acknowledge a robot being shut down.
Progressives are not free thinking individuals ( Also known as human) they are collectivists (Known as drones) and the lose of one drone in a collective is no big deal, as a matter of fact it will go unnoticed.

    Sorry, missy…Cheney was NEVER drafted…

    From Wikipedia:

When Cheney became eligible for the draft, during the Vietnam War, he applied for and received five draft deferments.[17][18] In 1989, The Washington Post writer George C. Wilson interviewed Cheney as the next Secretary of Defense; when asked about his deferments, Cheney reportedly said, “I had other priorities in the ’60s than military service.”[19] Cheney testified during his confirmation hearings in 1989 that he received deferments to finish a college career that lasted six years rather than four, owing to sub par academic performance and the need to work to pay for his education. Initially, he was not called up because the Selective Service System was only taking older men. When he became eligible for the draft, he applied for four deferments in sequence. He applied for his fifth exemption on January 19, 1966, when his wife was about 10 weeks pregnant. He was granted 3-A status, the “hardship” exemption, which excluded men with children or dependent parents. In January 1967, Cheney turned 26 and was no longer eligible for the draft.[20]

DOVER, Del. – Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden received five student draft deferments during the Vietnam War, the same number of deferments received by Vice President Dick Cheney, and later was disqualified from service because of asthma that he suffered as a teenager.

    OK, that’s bad.

But, in light of alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the Bush Monkey images we saw for 8 years, is it really that out of the blue or shocking that there are now Obama Monkey images?

I know that it is considered racist to portray a black person as a monkey – but try setting that aside, and look at the history of Bush portrayed as a monkey – is it really racism, or just a tasteless joke attacking another POTUS? (we saw gazillions about Bush) http://tinyurl.com/44tdgnp

I mean…. should Obama get special treatment just because he’s African American? He’s still the POTUS, and last time I checked, the Left had free range to attack Bush in any way possible, and that included creating a Bush Monkey family portrait.

    http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj67/bewildered93/bush_monkey.jpg

I’m not arguing, I’m asking. Don’t jump on me hysterically, and call me a racist. I am asking a question, and would like a discussion.

Obama as the Joker was called racist. Obama as Hitler was called racist. Obama as a monkey is racist…. Seriously. At some point, you gotta put down the race cards, and realize that he is getting it as good as the Left gave it to Bush, don’t you?

If not, isn’t he getting *special treatment* or being treated differently because of his skin color? And if so, isn’t that racist?

(I know one person on here would consider this one racist: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/111/294945256_c14f088931.jpg )

  • http://www.sarainitalyblog.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

“people are still making Obama/monkey jokes in 2011, sad”

why isn’t it “people are still making POTUS/Monkey jokes in 2011, lame” ?

I just don’t know how anyone can act like it is an isolated occurrence, reserved especially for Obama, portraying the POTUS as a monkey. It ignores the fact that for 8 years Bush was portrayed as a monkey – and in light of their both serving as POTUS, I just don’t see how you ignore one, and choose to be irate over another – unless you are granting special treatment to Obama, because of his skin color….

Again, not trying to start a fight – just askin’.

(not defending this woman, don’t have a clue or care who she is. and who knows, she has a history, she very well may be racist. I am just asking in general because this crap never stops)

It’s called intercultural competence. America can still be split up in categories of racial and ethnic cultures.

Whether anybody likes it or not, people are going to be held to a standard of awareness and responsibility.

If somebody from another race or culture does something to offend another out of ignorance, it is their choice to correct their mistake or stand by their ignorant statment. In turn, it is the choice of the offended to accept it or not.

Why are images of him as the Joker and Hitler also considered racist, when Bush was portrayed as Joker, Hitler and monkeys. Doesn’t there come a point when you have to quit looking at everything through a black or white lens?

Why are images of him as the Joker and Hitler also considered racist, when Bush was portrayed as Joker, Hitler and monkeys. Doesn’t there come a point when you have to quit looking at everything through a black or white lens?

Why isn’t Obama monkey seen as POTUS monkey, just like it was for Bush? They are either equals, or they aren’t. And if they aren’t, then why? That, to me, is racism….

In fact, the thought never entered my mind until one or two other people [Scott Baugh, Orange County GOP boss and Moxley] tried to make this about race . . . I received plenty of emails about George Bush that I didn’t particularly like yet there was no ‘cry’ in the media about them . . . OK, that’s good enough for me, that HufPo article was fvcking ridiculous.

White face and Monkey jokes are still too culturally sensitive. Whether race was the point or not, the significance of it hold in our American history still has to be recognized. If that’s not what the person ment, then explain and apologize for your ignorance.

There are also still people that think racisim is fine and funny, so they embrace it and that’s their choice. The point is, thankfully, there are still consequences.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Travis-Pierson/1497076194 Wingo

Neither party has a monopoly on racists, but only one has cornered the market on racist policies. It’s the Democrats. Don’t believe me? Who is fighting to keep Planned Parenthood – founded by racist eugenicist Margaret Sanger – in business? Blacks make up 13% of the US population but account for 70% of all abortions. I’m sure Marge is overjoyed about that one. Take a look at what the left’s policies (primarily paying blacks to be poor) have done to black families and neighborhoods and it is obvious the Democrats are filled with hatred for blacks. Look at the way black conservatives are treated. “Don’t you know your place? Get back on the plantation and hoe your row!”

This woman is an idiot and may very well be a racist – this particular incident is hardly enough evidence to convict – but she is hardly representative of the right which has continued to fight for MLK’s dream that every man be judged not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character.

Carter again cites racism as factor in Obama’s treatment

“When a radical fringe element of demonstrators and others begin to attack the president of the United States as an animal or as a reincarnation of Adolf Hitler or when they wave signs in the air that said we should have buried Obama with Kennedy, those kinds of things are beyond the bounds,” the Democrat who served from 1977-1981 told students at Emory University.

President Bush was depicted by democrats as an Ape on hundreds of sites. The pictures were displayed at every left wing event. Why is the media upset with this issue now? Attached link gives some samples of the democrats use of President Bush in this degrading manner. What goes around comes around. Unfortunately, the liberal media will use this one incident to smear all Republicans, Tea Party members etc. That is why Republicans in general don’t give the left wing media fodder to use against them.

Seriously? A college paper by some dude, who references one occasion? Did you even read it? Whiteface was used to mock white people – not black people. Can you tell me how Obama as the Joker was racist, based on that?

There are occasions of people donning whiteface, like aristocrats and royalty to distinguish themselves from lower class working people (especially Irish), and there were some South African tribes who used whiteface to mock and ridicule *stupid slave traders* against mighty African warriors, and there are two instances I can think of in modern times – the Wayan brothers in White Chicks, and Eddie Murphy as the old Jewish guy.

    Wanna try again?

Obama as the Joker was called racist. Obama as Hitler was called racist. Obama as a monkey is racist…. Seriously. At some point, you gotta put down the race cards, and realize that he is getting it as good as the Left gave it to Bush, don’t you?

Well as for the monkey picture in this article, that’s pretty indefensible. If my boss found out I was emailing a picture like that around to my friends, let alone that it was leaked to the public, I would just start cleaning out my desk.

As for the Hitler faces and such, hey I don’t see all the racism in it either personally. I would, however, raise an eyebrow if I was a black person seeing mobs of white people carrying signs demonizing the first black president like that. Consider all the fervor over this birther saga. How come it hasn’t been roundly squashed by the GOP party? Remember when McCain immediately shut down that old lady calling Obama an Arab? Why hasn’t a response like that been more prevalent? Furthermore, this tea party saga. I don’t remember seeing a bunch of white people hanging around dressing up like colonials yelling about Bush’s spending sprees.

I’m not arguing about people’s intentions. Yet, people might also need to take a step back and consider how things look to those that don’t agree with them politically.

So, while people want to get all outrageously outraged over this, it is but a long list of things that were done to Bush, that are NOW considered offensive and racist about Obama.

Because Louis Farrakhan is not an official of and is not in any way affiliated with the Democratic party. This woman is a GOP official. That’s the difference.

No it is not. There is a long history of racist treatment of blacks in our history …. which doesn’t get conveniently ignored or dropped simply because a black man is now in the WH.

how is portraying Obama as Hitler or the Joker, racist? You can’t call every single bit of criticism racist – it makes the monkey picture just another in a long line of race cards – and completely loses all shock value, or credibility.

You just said he is a black man in the WH, not a man or POTUS. You still see skin color, and expect that he be treated differently because of his skin color.

Yes, historically, there has been racism (an ugly past, for sure, and it still exists in ALL forms today).
But we also never had an African American in the White House, before. Now we do.
Isn’t it about time to start NOT only seeing skin color? Obama is POTUS, not black POTUS, or POTUS of black America. He is POTUS.

He is not getting treated any differently than any other President. And as for his Birth certificate – McCain was forced to show his, and there were lawsuits filed about his eligibility. Palin is being asked to prove her child is hers, and is being asked to show his birth certificate. Conspiracy theories live in both parties – Obama is nothing new or special. Truthers accused Bush, that 9/11 was an inside job.

The Left wants special treatment for Obama because he is black. They are treating him special, not as an equal to past presidents. Any and all criticism has been called racist. It started by attacking Hillary Clinton supporters early during the primary, and it hasn’t stopped.

Late night comedians treated Obama differently. They still mostly go after people around him, his cabinet, or Bush – scared to go after Obama. The media didn’t vet him, treated him differently.

Accusations of racism is a weapon, used to silence the opposition, and it worked against the Clintons, and then McCain/Palin. Didn’t Powell turn his back on McCain, citing *racism* he saw in the McCain camp? How many people accused the Clinton’s of racist behavior/comments?

All this faux BS *racist this* racist that* takes away from actual racism, and it also belittles Obama, IMHO.

One more thing that makes it different for Obama than Bush. (I really can’t believe I’m having to explain this)

Bush NEVER experienced 1 day in his life when he was discriminated against because of the color of his skin.
I can guarantee you that Obama has experienced many.
Their paths to the WH have been so different and the challenges so much greater for Obama that it is laughable to attempt to compare them.

I just don’t see how you can have one standard for a white president and one for a black president. That is in itself, racist.

And like I was saying earlier – it’s not just the monkey crap, it’s the Hitler, Joker, etc. stuff that’s called racist, as well. So, while people want to get all outrageously outraged over this, it is but a long list of things that were done to Bush, that are NOW considered offensive and racist about Obama.

So, it seems he is expected to be treated differently BECAUSE of his skin color. Which, as I said, seems racist to me.

When in Bush’s term did they start? Where were they during his unfunded prescription legislation? Why didn’t they have the legions of followers then? I thought their rallying cry was, “subsidizing losers’ mortgages.”

    From TeaPartyPatriots:
“Tea Party Patriots wishes to extend a special thank you to Rick Santelli for his rant on February 19, 2009, which started this entire movement. Without Rick’s rant, this movement would never have started. Many others will try to take credit but don’t be fooled. He was the spark that began this fire.”

Obama has followed many of Bush’s policies with gusto, and he deserves to be derided as he often is by his base. The point is if armies of angry white people suddenly appear the moment a black man is sworn in as President then people will make assumptions. Valid or not, that’s what’s going to happen. The media, always hungry for a juicy story, whether there is truth to it or not, happily ran with it. Therefore, we all got to see pictures of Tea Party people holding up outrageous Obama pictures.

I don’t think people here are overtly racist at all. There does, however, seem to be quite a level of naivete going on. Call me politically correct or a race baiter, but I’m just trying to state the other side.

    Ron Paul tea party 2007
    http://tinyurl.com/3owonlj

    Tea party:

    Early local protest events

On January 24, 2009, Trevor Leach, chairman of the Young Americans for Liberty in New York State organized a “Tea Party” protest in response to “obesity taxes”, over 100 other taxes proposed by New York Governor David Paterson, and out-of-control spending. Several of the protesters wore Native American headdresses similar to the band of 18th century colonists who dumped tea in Boston Harbor to express outrage about British taxes.

Some of the protests were partially in response to several Federal laws: the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and a series of healthcare reform bills.

New York Times journalist Kate Zernike reported that leaders within the Tea Party credit Seattle blogger and conservative activist Keli Carender with organizing the first Tea Party in February 2009, although the term “Tea Party” was not used. Other articles, written by Chris Good of The Atlantic and NPR’s Martin Kaste,
credit Carender as, “one of the first” Tea Party organizers and state that she “organized some of the earliest Tea Party-style protests”.

Carender first organized what she called a “Porkulus Protest” in Seattle on Presidents Day, February 16, the day before President Barack Obama signed the stimulus bill into law. Carender said she did it without support from outside groups or city officials. “I just got fed up and planned it.” Carender said 120 people participated. “Which is amazing for the bluest of blue cities I live in, and on only four days notice! This was due to me spending the entire four days calling and emailing every person, think tank, policy center, university professors (that were sympathetic), etc. in town, and not stopping until the day came.”

According to pollster Scott Rasmussen, the bailouts of banks by the Bush and Obama administrations triggered the Tea Party’s rise. The interviewer adds that the movement’s anger centers on two issues, quoting Rasmussen as saying, “They think federal spending, deficits and taxes are too high, and they think no one in Washington is listening to them, and that latter point is really, really important.”

    First national protests

On February 19, 2009, in a broadcast from the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, CNBC Business News editor Rick Santelli criticized the government plan to refinance mortgages, which had just been announced the day before. He said that those plans were “promoting bad behavior” by “subsidizing losers’ mortgages”. He suggested holding a tea party for traders to gather and dump the derivatives in the Chicago River on July 1.

Tea party protests really kicked into high gear surrounding the health care debate, too.

So…. is it really about race, or debt and spending, and govt. take overs?

    @sarainitaly,

I understand that Ron Paul is essentially the Godfather of the Tea Party (Aside: that’s not necessarily a good thing either in this whole “Tea Party is racist” meme….. http://tinyurl.com/65asljp). My point is that the Tea Party only gained the national following it enjoys today after Obama assumed office and after Santelli’s rant. If you were not a minority would you not have some skepticism about that? Especially after everything done by the Bush administration?

Am I going to sit here and try and argue that every time somebody plays the racism card they are doing it in good faith? Of course not. They think they have a great defense against all criticism of “their guy” As you noted earlier, it insults the President. At the same time, are you willing to concede that there are times when criticism of Obama has a definite racial undertone? That some people are trying to play into the more base fear of those that are “different?”

All I’m trying to do is elucidate where some of these charges of racism come from. I keep at this with you because I don’t think you and I are “enemies”. I make lots of snarky comments on here but I like to have intelligent debate with people who appear sane. Our enemies are the people that want to divide us by turning our politics into the worthless “us” vs “them” game that it has become. I am not a Ron Paul supporter, but I think if he was starting the tea parties back in 2007, it had nothing to do with Obama or that he is black….

As I outlined the emergence of the tea party – they were starting locally, and growing nationally because of local concerns, taxes, spending etc. Santelli kicked it off nationally because of the bailouts. And it got fevered over healthcare.

Why would ANYONE assume it was about Obama’s skin color?

There were concrete occurrences that were happening that led to the movement, and they were about $$.
Why did McCain lose so badly? BECAUSE of Bush, and the Republican party. Why did everyone campaign AGAINST Bush?

Why does Congresses approval rating hover around 9%? It’s not because there are some black people in there!

And of COURSE there has been some instances of racism. Racism exists. But *fairy tale* and Obama Hitler are not racist, people protesting healthcare is not about race, people protesting Obama and Democrats is not racism. And that is what we have seen for more than three years now. People even tried to say that Palin wearing a white shirt on the campaign trail was a call out to the white supremacists or some crap. I kid you not. Ferraro was called racist for her comments… ANY thing and everything has been called racist.

So, at the end of the day, it’s just become a big joke. Had we not seen race card after race card, this monkey image would most likely get a much bigger negative reaction. But, now…it is just another in a long line of race cards. But I still think my argument about Obama being POTUS and not a black POTUS, subject to the same kind of treatment, is valid. Bush was ALWAYS portrayed as a monkey.

The race card is just driving a bigger and bigger wedge – diving us further apart. It’s what drove me away from the Dem party.

Had no president in our history ever been protested, or characturized, or called names, or portrayed as a monkey, hitler, or Joker, then yes. I would say it is all about Obama’s race. But that is not the case, is it?

This misinformation in emails is ludicrous, all of the crazy false emails I get are from my Republicans friends gives me a bad opinion of them, I think they live in a coma and come out just before political activity starts warming up, when I read their emails with their view of political false statements and how they are excited about spreading this stupid, false information, I wonder how anyone this dumb became my friend. Many are seniors making hardly enough to pay their monthly bill. They listen to some of these small church preaches with small contractors as big financial supporter of these little church, therefore these preachers need to be Republicans to keep the financial support by these small businessmen continually flowing. This is the only way I believe some of my senior friends have been indoctrinated into believing the Republican Party is for the poor man. How dumb? We all know if Republicans get a chance, down goes Medicare, down goes Social Security, down goes education, down goes anything their kids don’t qualify for. That is probably why the jails and prisons are full and why our Judges feel guilty about giving a long jail term to offenders. If everyone is making a decent living and harmony exist throughout, we can devote our energies to improving America and helping other countries, but that is impossible when Capitalism and Profiteering is the focus of universities, churches, all industries and the homeless along with the Drug Lords. We need more true enforcement of all laws. We could start with reforming the Civil Liberties Union. This is not a smart mouth remark, it is an honest feelings. You can do it without hurting them. Some people need to hit bottom before they can see the light up above and I believe that is the lower 60% of the registered Republicans.

What’s funny is that Barry doesn’t mention the discrimination he has faced as much as you bleeding heart libs mention the discrimination that YOU feel he must have experienced.

Demonstrates the intelligence level of many of those in the Republican party- where such mindless trash is funny. Just like junior high school. It is unfortunate the Republican Party doesn’t ask for IQ tests along with making sure their committee officers live in the adult world. Marilyn Davenport is the an example of the worst kind- those who have racist views and think it is funny to tell/send and spread that kind of nastiness. But I bet she will be nice to your face if you are a black member of the Republican Party! Just wait until you aren’t in the.room, the real Marilyn Davenport comes out..

It’s the old Race Card. You poor retrograde racist rightwingers. Yes, racism is alive and well and rightwingers don’t have a monopoly on it, but the racist virus is certainly a lot stronger the further right you go. Ah yes, you say, but it’s really the liberals who are the racists. Unfortunately, you have no basis to say that as most progressive people are conscious of our innate racism and are usually at the forefront in fighting it. I can understand why you’re in such denial about racism because it goes hand in hand with the dishonest ideas you have about what needs to be done to get us out of this economic and social mess we’re in. It’s the policies of the right that have for the most part gotten us into trouble and all you can suggest are ways that make Herbert Hoover look progressive. Anyone with common sense and an understanding of history knows that if Obama were white the hostility level would be a fraction of what it is. It would be great if some of you would wake up and acknowledge reality. For sure, more and more voters are beginning to see through your phoney Americanism. Fortunately, the demographics are also continuing to turn against you.

No, all 3 are YOUR KIDS on that picture, no photoshop needed. Just be relived that the goats you FU+KED didn’t get pregnant. BTW Michelle lives in the White House and the likes of you don’t, and never will. She is pampered on hand and foot, jets around in Air force One anywhere in the world she chooses, and all the other perks that come with being Mrs POTUS. And she gets to do it all while YOU and Your families pay for her and family to live in the lap of luxury. I suggest you get a hand full of your calming pills, run to you local 7-11, get a pint of the Red Dagger you love so to wash them with, fill your meth pipe, lay on your springy yard couch, put wet rags over your dirty forehead, put your rusty feet up and try to deal with the fact that there’s a BLACK family living in the White House. Or You can CHOKE ON IT. Which would be probably be the best thing you could do for America!.

Do we know where the Picture Originated from?
Im in a college class that is discussing it, rather lively discussion actually, but I am curious who did the cut and paste then sent it off.
What race was the individual who did it? If that person was an African American would that make it not as bad?
