BBC Promises Weirdest, Coolest Christmas Special Ever. With Doctor Who.
It almost sounds right: A Doctor Who Christmas. Maybe because it sounds a lot like A Dr. Seuss Christmas. Or something.
But the Brits have decided to take their beloved-but-still-somewhat-confusing-to-Americans character, Doctor Who, and give him a good old fashioned holiday movie, based on the classic A Christmas Carol , written by Steven Moffat, creator of the recent Masterpiece Mystery hit Sherlock, and set to debut on BBC America on Christmas Day. Moffat described his sci-fi holiday mashup this way:
“Oh, we’re going for broke with this one. It’s all your favorite Christmas movies at once, in an hour, with monsters. And the Doctor. And a honeymoon. And … oh, you’ll see. I’ve honestly never been so excited about writing anything. I was laughing madly as I typed along to Christmas songs in April. My neighbors loved it so much they all moved away and set up a website demanding my execution. But I’m fairly sure they did it ironically.”
Doctor Who, meanwhile, is busy shooting in Utah for next season’s two-part series premiere that–ready for it?–is set in the U.S. in the late 1960s.
Okay, who’s in the holiday spirit now? You’re welcome.
