The Marco Rubio/Rachel Maddow Campaign Warfare Continues, Keeps The Music Playing
Why are Republican politicians insisting on running campaigns against Rachel Maddow, even when they have real opponents in their elections? After having to debunk a rumor from the Sen. Scott Brown campaign that she was gearing up to run against him, Maddow now finds herself trading campaign ads with Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio, again, who will neither confirm nor deny that he proposes several trillion dollars in federal spending.
Rubio, who is having a tough time in the polls against actual opponent, Governor Charlie Crist, seems to have now dived completely into attacking Maddow. After releasing an ad set to goofy music suggesting that, since “Rachel Maddow thinks it’s wrong,” his policies must be right, Maddow responded, trying to get a direct answer from the Senate candidate about his proposed budget expenses– and admitting that, besides the obvious political questions she wanted answered, she just “want[ed] to keep the music going.”
To that end, she released yet another ad last night, set to the same tune, of Maddow and her crew in the streets of New York with signs asking Rubio about his budget proposals, the theory being that, if Maddow sticks to the question at hand, and “nothing else,” Rubio will be forced to answer the question.
