CNN’s Don Lemon: I Think the White House Press Conference Encounter With Jim Acosta Was ‘Staged’
CNN’s Don Lemon believes the explosive White House news conference skirmish between President Donald Trump, Jim Acosta, and an intern who attempted to take the microphone from the reporter, was “staged.”
Lemon made the comment on CNN Tonight Tuesday during a conversation with guest Burt Neuborne — a civil rights attorney and NYU law professor. Neuborne criticized the White House for sending an intern to take the microphone from Acosta, when it could’ve ended his questioning another way.
“I’ve been in enough crowds where there are hecklers,” Neuborne said. “You want to control somebody? You turn the microphone off. You don’t send some poor intern into a crowd to take the microphone away. There are plenty of ways to control it.”
Lemon seemed to agree that the White House could’ve used another tactic. But he believes they sent the intern on purpose.
“I think that was staged,” Lemon said. “I think they played that up.”
CNN has sued the White House for revoking Acosta’s access. A motion for a temporary injunction will be heard in a Federal court Wednesday afternoon.
