Huckabee Petitions: ‘Immediately Release Kim Davis From Federal Custody’
Mike Huckabee continues to support jailed Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, the elected official in Kentucky who was found in contempt of court for refusing to issue marriage licenses. The former Arkansas governor called Davis’ husband, argued with George Stephanopoulos, and Twitter-feuded with Gavin Newsom over the matter, but that’s not enough according to the GOP presidential candidate.
Hence Huckabee’s petition, “Free Kim Davis Now” and an upcoming rally to be held outside the gates of the Carter County Detention Center in Grayson, Kentucky, where Davis is currently being held.
Addressed to President Obama, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, and U.S. District Judge David Bunning, Huckabee’s petition curtly demands that the authorities “immediately release Kim Davis from federal custody.”
“Exercising Religious Liberty should never be a crime in America,” argues Huckabee, adding that “this is a direct attack on our God-given, constitutional rights.”
The accompanying rally is scheduled to take place outside of Davis’ detention center on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 3 p.m. ET. No word yet on how many are expected to attend the event.
