James Comey Reportedly Asked for More Resources to Speed Up Russia Investigation

As the Trump Administration faces questions about James Comey‘s firing, a new report is highlighting a peculiar coincidence regarding the timing of the ongoing political firestorm.

The New York Times heard from multiple sources, who say that just a few days ago, the former FBI director put in a request for more money and resources to go toward the investigation into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Comey filed this request with Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general whom the White House cited in defense of Trump’s decision to relieve Comey of duty last night.

The Times reports that Comey briefed members of Congress about his Rosenstein meeting, and he expressed frustration about the amount of investigative resources at his disposal. It is not yet clear whether the request was approved or if the meeting was the specific catalyst for Comey’s firing.

Politico reporter Josh Gerstein tweeted that he heard from the Department of Justice, who told him that Comey never made any request to them.

Comey’s firing has become a new source of controversy for President Trump, with critics and media figures are asking why POTUS decided to fire Comey as the FBI continues its investigation into the election.
