Liberia Will Prosecute Man Who Brought Ebola to U.S.
Thomas Eric Duncan has something to worry about atop of a) ebola and b) going down as the person who brought it to the United States: if and when he recovers, Liberia wants to prosecute him.
Liberian officials allege Duncan lied during airport screening and said he had not touched an infected person; in fact Duncan had helped carry an infected woman to a taxi several days before he flew from Liberia to the U.S., though it’s unclear whether he knew at the time that her ailment was ebola-related. The woman later died from the disease.
Liberian officials told the Associated Press that Duncan was bringing a “stigma” upon the country by carrying the disease elsewhere.
Duncan is being treated in Dallas while numerous people he’s been in contact with are under quarantine. Ebola spreads through contact with bodily fluids only when people are sympotamtic; it is not believed Duncan was infectious while flying.
