New Gallup Poll: Trump’s Approval Rating Hits Lowest Point

As President Trump continues to face criticism over how he reacted to Charlottesville, a new poll from Gallup shows his approval numbers are still slipping.

The latest average shows Trump’s approval rating at 34 percent, the lowest point of his administration to date. Republican support for Trump dropped from 82 percent to 77, and approval from Independent voters has fallen to 29 percent.

Trump’s low numbers come as his administration continues to perform damage control and move the country beyond the racially-charged mayhem that took place in Charlottesville. When Trump first addressed the deadly violence over the weekend, he took heat when he failed to explicitly condemn the white supremacists involved.

Even though Trump offered a stronger statement earlier today, there are still critics who viewed his statements as insufficient and overdue.

The survey was conducted over a three-day period that concluded on Sunday. This means that at least some of the participants responded to Gallup’s poll while the riots in Charlottesville were still breaking out, and before Trump became caught in his latest controversy.
