Richard Painter Dings Trump Over Stormy Daniels: ‘Nothing Sexy About Dirty Old Men in Politics’
Richard Painter, chief White House ethics lawyer under President George W. Bush and veritable American treasure, wants the American people to know that Donald Trump‘s alleged lurid affair with porn star Stormy Daniels totally grosses him out.
Painter paid a visit to MSNBC’s Velshi & Ruhle to discuss allegations that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen set up a company by which to pay Daniels for a non-disclosure agreement.
“I don’t think there’s anything sexy about dirty old men in politics,” Painter said. “The money is what’s important here, not the sex.”
“Where this money came from, we have yet to find out. We have yet to find out if banking laws were violated,” he added. “There may or may not have been crimes committed here. But the theme throughout is President Trump’s use of money to get what he wants, when he wants it. That is not a theme that’s consistent with our presidency.”
The cherry on top? At the top of the segment, Stephanie Ruhle had something of a Freudian slip when she used the word “smack” to describe the story.
“Good thing this is on tape,” Ali Velshi joked. “We can edit this before it goes live.”
The segment, of course, was live — much to our delight.
