WATCH: Dems Can’t Hide Their Frustration with Obama over Immigration Action Delay
The White House announced on Saturday that President Obama would be delaying action on immigration reform until after the midterm elections. And frankly, some Democrats in Congress couldn’t hide how disappointed and frustrated they are with Obama for the delay.
Senator Bob Menendez and Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez both said, in TV appearances over the past day, that they’re “disappointed” in Obama for the delay. Congressman Tony Cardenas said on CNN yesterday that “we are all frustrated” and he’s not happy with “what the president’s advisers may be telling him.”
(That being said, all three of them did also have some choice words for House Republicans, who they still believe are to blame for much of the problem.)
Congressman Luis Gutierrez also spoke out on ABC’s This Week, lamenting how Obama is “playing it safe” on immigration instead of sticking to principle and fighting for reform despite whatever the political fallout may be.
Senator Mark Udall reacted by saying, “I’m disappointed that President Obama has now delayed action to help keep families together.” And in one of the more damning statements, Congressman Raul Grijalva said, “Today, President Obama placed political calculations over the hopes and needs of immigrant communities.”
