Bill Kristol Rips Trump Presser as ‘Ludicrous Stunt’: ‘Couldn’t Stand It’ That Pelosi Was ‘Center of Attention’

A CNN panel tore into President Donald Trump Thursday for his impromptu press availability in which he remarked on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi‘s (D-CA) swearing in as well as the current government shutdown.

It was Trump’s first appearance in the White House briefing room — announced abruptly, with five minutes’ notice — and the president used it to make a call for funding his border wall alongside border patrol advocates.

“To be clear, this is basically — this is a stunt,” said CNN anchor Brianna Keilar. “This isn’t a briefing. It was billed as a last-minute briefing. It was not a briefing, right? A briefing is questions. A briefing is more than just a political stunt which is what we just saw.”

“Here’s what is was,” conservative pundit Bill Kristol interjected. “Donald Trump couldn’t stand it that Nancy Pelosi was the center of attention today. He can’t stand the fact any other human being could get his or her day in the spotlight, so he had to butt in at 4:30 in the afternoon. It’s pretty disgraceful, don’t you think? New speaker of the house, a moving moment on the Hill, new members, and he has to have his ludicrous stunt with some union officials who endorsed him.”
