Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell admitted today he harbors some concerns about
Tapper brought up how McConnell wrote in his new book that the great Republican legacy of civil rights was thrown out the window when the GOP nominated Barry Goldwater. McConnell said that it was a “defining moment for Republicans” with regard to the black vote.
“Do you worry at all that your nominee now, Donald Trump,” Tapper asked, “will do to Latinos what Barry Goldwater did to African-American voters?”
McConnell said, “I do.”
He pointed to Trump’s recent attack on sitting Republican Hispanic governor Susana Martinez and said, “I think that was a big mistake.”
