On Friday, President Donald Trump expressed his willingness to testify under oath to give his version of events to Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
ABC correspondent Jonathan Karl had asked about James Comey‘s Thursday testimony. The President disputed several of the former FBI director’s statements during the hearing and his prepared opening statement.
Karl noted that Comey “said those things under oath” and wondered, “Would you be willing to speak under oath to give your version of events?”
Mr. Trump replied, “100 percent.”
He added, “I hardly know the man. I’m not going to say, I want you to pledge allegiance. Who would do that. Who would ask a man to pledge allegiance?… It doesn’t make sense.”
The ABC journalist then wondered, “So if Robert Mueller wanted to speak with you about that, you would be willing to talk to him?”
The President bluntly answered, “I’d be glad to tell him exactly what I just told you, John.”
Mr. Trump gave this answer during a joint event in the White House Rose Garden with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis. Karl followed up by asking the President about the existence of “tapes” of his conversations with Comey.
