So Chris Matthews ill-advisedly used a corny phrase to describe the fact that he was overcome with emotion. When you strip away the hate for the person, or his politics, is there really any shame in what he expressed?

I still remember the emotion I felt when President Bush grabbed that bullhorn from on top of the rubble after 9/11.

I also was overcome with that same pride and emotion at some of the inspirational speeches President Obama has given.

I’ll take a message of “hope & inspiration” over the politics of hate and divisiveness every time. If some want to use corny phrases (or even tears) to described their feelings – whether it’s Mr. Mathews or Mr. Beck – it should be applauded and not ridiculed.
