Fake News Reports Of Russian Invasion Send Georgians Panicking

In a War Of The Worlds-esque scenario (the Orson Welles adaptation, not the movie), residents of Georgia were thrown into a state of shock and panic when Imedi TV – a pro-government station – telecast an “imitation of events” that had Russian troops rolling into the city and President Mikheil Saakashvili assassinated.
According to Reuters, the broadcast showed pictures of 2008 when Russia was engaged in a 5-day war with Georgia over the South Ossetia region. Viewers rushed into the streets before the announcer was able to come back on and apologize, saying “”We just wanted to show what the worst day in Georgian history might look like.”
