Jon Stewart To Fox News: ‘Nothing Obama Does Will Ever Make You F*cking Happy’

President Barack Obama‘s appearance yesterday on the popular ABC show The View, was seen by many on the right (and some on the left) as somehow “beneath the Office of the President of the United States,” particularly since Obama reportedly passed on attending the Boy Scouts 100-year National Jamboree to tape the show. Last night Jon Stewart lampooned that line of thinking and briefly made a troubled nation forget its problems through laughter.

Imagining a scenario in which Obama had chosen instead to go to the Boy Scout Jamboree, Stewart predicted the criticism that would come from the very same pundits critical of the appearance on The View:

“This president passes on an open forum to discuss issues important to women in national television in order to stand in the field rallying his adoring uniformed youth? I wonder who else would have made that choice?”

Hitler youth gestures that followed may have never been better received by any audience. Ever.

While the following segment largely mocks the critics of Obama’s appearance on The View, Stewart also finds time to make fun of the President’s ‘youtube’ movie that was produced as a tutorial/promotional video for the new healthcare.gov website. Stewart said, “What, wasn’t Wilford Brimley available?” Funny.

Stewart should focus more on the good work that Keith Olberman is doing.

Good Call onece again by the court jester who’s punditry outshines REAL POLITICAL PUNDITS night after night after night-with just the right amoiunt of satire!!

And what’s that? You say Stewart had a critique of the appearance that didn’t fit the libeal meme either? Well that’s why people like bat-boy are soooooooooo saaaaaad-even their own pundits are too afraid to look inside themselves and taken on an issue from angle that just might not fit their limbaugh approaved template!!! What sad fools indeed.

As I have said before conservatives have no sense of humor-a malady that stems from not understanding what self deprecation mean or even how to appraoch a situation using even the slightest bit of intropsection!!!

Keep on keepin’ Daily show. You are fine patriots all!

So the Boy Scouts of America are some how Hitler youth now? I don’t have a problem with Obama not going to the 100th anniversary of the scouts but to compare them to Hitler youth is a far stretch.

i don’t think it would be that big of a deal, if it were closer to an election. it seems like he never, ever stops campaigning.

if he went on to win women back, he should have answered more important questions than ones about lindsey lohan and snooki. they only asked him a couple of pointed questions, the rest was fluffy filler that frankly, in this economy, isn’t enough to win back indys.

the View ladies kind of dropped the ball as far as taking the best advantage of the situation by asking too much fluff (do they really think their audience is so shallow?) Elizabeth asked a great question, and Whoopi and Barbara both asked about race…which were ok, but I think we are all so tired of talking about it.

He filibusters and was SO boring.

Bottom line, if Obama wants to do better in the polls, he needs to do better at his job, not at campaigning.

And Stewart is making fun of the critics for the same reason his critics are critiquing. They have a show to do.

  • paulmdoro

He can’t help what questions he gets asked sara, and nowadays first-term presidents are always campaigning.

I think people are more tired of hearing about how the country needs a good, honest discussion about race rather than actually talking about race.

  • Azarkhan

The government takeover of GM was another thing we didn’t like:

So the future of General Motors (and the $50 billion taxpayer investment in it) now depends on a vehicle that costs $41,000 but offers the performance and interior space of a $15,000 economy car…

Quantifying just how much taxpayer money will have been wasted on the hastily developed Volt is no easy feat. Start with the $50 billion bailout (without which none of this would have been necessary), add $240 million in Energy Department grants doled out to G.M. last summer, $150 million in federal money to the Volt’s Korean battery supplier, up to $1.5 billion in tax breaks for purchasers and other consumer incentives, and some significant portion of the $14 billion loan G.M. got in 2008 for “retooling” its plants, and you’ve got some idea of how much taxpayer cash is built into every Volt.

    Wie Gehts’s Herr King?

just checking in from the road-I told myself I wouldn’t do it but I had to see how the wingnuts were behaving after the show yesterday! And of course they didn’t like it-big suprise right?

Anyways aside from the hot weather it is so nice here in the District. Last night my friends and I did the M street thing- had a nice dinner at an Iranian resturant, spent a little time hob-nobbing with science fiction writier David J. Williams at the Barnes and Noble, skipped over to La Madeline for a chicken Friand and few glasses of wine then topped it all off with going to see “inception”(a fine movie indeed) at Union Station on Capitol Hill.

DC is a wonderful international city. I admit I did become a bit despondent when I considered that Right wing fools don’t consider this the real America. All I can say is that this city is More American in its acceptance of other cultures than fly over country ever will be and while these country-fried fools bitch and moan over who has more of a claim on America’ s freedoms all you have to do is look around the capitol and see that we are still envied around the world!!!

I must have seen/head over a dozen different languages and when they were speaking english they seemed to all agree one thing; America is still the greatest country on the face of the planet. and that’s not “exceptionalism” its something that we as Americans have built in blood and sweat.

So far this trip has been one ofthe best yet-in fact I may have to move back here.

Enjoy your weekened buddy and don’t let these sourpusses get to you.

Speaking of Fox News, I’m betting that when Murdoch passes the biz down to the kids, Fox News will become just another MSNBC. Politically, the Murdoch family has always leaned left. Several articles floating around the web, allege that Murdoch’s kids are unhappy with Fox News’ programming, as it is today. Unless Murdoch’s will stipulates that Roger Ailes calls the shots, upon his death, I believe Fox News will become MSNBC’s sister station. What will we do for ‘fair and balanced’, then? LOL.

    Another thing we don’t like:

WASHINGTON (AP) — The recovery lost momentum in the spring as growth slowed to a 2.4 percent pace, its most sluggish showing in nearly a year and too weak to drive down unemployment…
Still, the recovery has been losing power for two straight quarters. That raises concerns about whether it will fizzle out. Or worse, tip back into a “double-dip” recession….

You are missing the point and I think you know it.

Stewart was criticizing the media because if he had gone to the Boy Scout Jamboree, there very well could have been calls of ‘indoctrination’ in the same way there were calls for indoctrination when he spoke at a public school. And I think he has a fair point.

The Hitler Youth comment was a poke at the hyperbole that frequently inhabits statements made by the media.

Jon Stewart To Fox News: ‘Nothing Obama Does Will Ever Make You F*cking Happy’

I hear praise for Obama every single day on FOX News. Almost every single one of the numerous democrats who appear on FOX News every day have nice things to say about him. Of course, he gets some critcism from FOX News every day too. And when you compare that to the amount of criticism he gets from all the other networks I can see why it looks like an awful lot of criticism. After all, ‘some’ is a lot more than ‘none’, right?

Much of his Afghanistan war policy has met with approval across the board. His appointment of General Betr… umm…Petraeus was unanimously applauded. Keeping Gitmo open was the right thing to do. Soon he will be forced to retract his arbitrary withdrawal deadline and that will be commended.

But….let’s entertain the premise…Jon Stewart To Fox News: ‘Nothing Obama Does Will Ever Make You F*cking Happy’.

    I would submit this…”HE HASN’T TRIED”. Here’s a few suggestions…

Quit lecturing about ‘bipartisanship’ as you simultaneously denigrate republicans.

Don’t compare American Exceptionalism to ‘Greek Exceptionalism’. The Greek work 20 hrs a week and retire an menopause. We are not like them.

Stop saying what you think people want to hear… just tell the truth. i.e…don’t promise to put the sausage making on CSPAN and then just ignore that you said it.

Stop showing the back of your head to other leaders of the world.

THAT WILL BE A GOOD START. WHEN HE GETS THROUGH WITH THAT SHORT LIST I’LL MAKE ANOTHER.

Steve-because i have the power of INTROSPECTION I know full well that I can be a raging ass. Why? You have hit the nail right on the head-people and I am one-often take their politcal views to the extremes on these boards because each side can really be pretty nasty. Sometimes when i see your typical “pot-shot partisan” like murf or Azarkhan or astrophe my first instict is to tell them to get bent-combine that with a little impulSe control issue and BINGO suddenly I’m quoting Dick Cheney!!!!!

If I thought I could have a rational conversation with many of our right wing breathren on this site then I would engage but the sad fact is that many of the right wingers here don’t want o discuss anything except the talking points they serial post to derail the threads(YES MICHELLE-F/AND GORDONBLOWS I’M TALKING ABOUT YOU). I hope that Mediaite can remain neutral and non partisan and the only way to do that is to call out idiots both left and right which is something I think I have done.

But lately it seem that the propondrance of the more malicious comments come from people who are not so much politcal but serial ass-wipes- and they come in all sizes, politics, and politcal persuaions. Sara’s freak out was so over the top compared to what RRK wrote all things considered but just other day after I posted a an actual analysi of an issue the first thing somerighty wrote was “I can’t wait to shit on your grave.”

Some people just want to rumble and to them “I’ll be there hucklberry” that’s just the way I am; when I see a bully picking on somebody I don’t ask their political affiliation-I jump in and mix it up. A failing? possibly. But I can and hopefully can live with. If you tell me I’m out of line I can accept it. Maybe others will see the wisdom in your words.

And that note I will return to enjoying my vacation-Steve RRk et al enjoy your weekend -See you all in a few days.

And once again to all the haterz: PEACE!

I think that is the territory that comes with being President though.

Jon is right. Nothing Obama does or will ever do will make the right happy. Nothing.

The same was true with Bush. I didn’t support him politically, but I liked him as a person, and it annoyed me that even light-hearted things Bush did was met with cynicism from those on the left.

I remember Laura Bush and one of their daughters on the Ellen show, and President Bush made an appearance via satellite (wait…a sitting President on a daytime talk show…before Obama on the View…hmm) and told his wife and daughter how much he loved them. It was geniunely sweet and it made me have a bit more respect for him. Yet some on the left responded with “Oh, that’s just a stunt, just for a photo-op to make him seem like a good guy, but he’s really evil.”

It’s things like that that make me ashamed of some liberals. Attack his policies, but don’t attack the man himself, and the same goes for the right with Obama.

At the end of the day, it’s just politics, plain and simple.

I don’t mind a good lecture/talking to on ‘bipartisanship’. I DO mind when it is directly followed by partisan attacks. And this guy is the worst.

He’s supposed to leaad by example…instead…out of one side of his mouth he says ‘let’s put politics aside’ and out of the other side he blames republicans for all his failures. And get’s downright shitty about it too.

Last time I checked (R) have no power so…. how can he blame republicans for everything? It’s the moderate (D)’s who have been the thorn in his side so he should be casting blame where it belongs.

In other words, he preaches ‘bi-partisanship’ but never concedes an inch. Just like with the HC Bill, he kept saying he wanted to hear ideas from (R) even though their ideas had already been expressed many times and when he finally did acknowledge that they had made proposals he refused to seriously entertain any of them.

That’s talkin’ the talk but not walkin’ the walk personified. Of course, it could just depend on what his definition of the word ‘bi-partisan’ is….

As if we should be pleased with bloated government, rising taxes, high unemployment, record deficits, oil pouring into the Gulf, a foreign policy in shambles, thousands of pages of new regulations, and a rogue’s gallery of appointees who vie to outdo each other in radical rhetoric and incompetence.

As Obama loses more and more credibility, the Left raises the level of its ridicule. A dangerous strategy. Mark my words, this will backfire. The NAACP has a history of inviting racist speakers and applauding their every word. Only in America does someone take a beating for being ‘anti-illegal’…..LMAO!

The question that should be asked of everyone is this….”DO YOU BELIEVE THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION ACTUALLY LOVES AMERICA”??

I submit that a compelling case could be made the they do not. After all, why would you want to ‘fundamentally transform’ something that you love?

Anyone can wrap themselves in an American flag. Anyone can throw a cheap sticker on their car or buy a lapel pin for their jacket. So what? What does that prove? Nothing. It does not mean they love America more than someone without an American flag sticker or pin. And have you ever been to a sporting event? People are always goofing around during the national anthem. Does that mean they hate America? I can’t believe I’m even having this argument. I suppose next you’ll tell me everyone without a Support the Troops sticker on their car hates America.

No. And I never said I did. I said ‘the case could be made’ and all you have done to refute what I presented was ‘what does this prove’.

It proves that it’s not crazy/racist to ask the question when it’s Obama himself who said he wanted to ‘fundamentally transform America”…. he’s the one who disrespects the Flag and the Antehm… and Michelle is the one who said ‘For the first time in my life…..”

There are lots of other instances of connections to people who may or may not be communists…. some definite radicals….. and some just plain hateful partisan bulldogs. When a member of your administration… in response to a question of ‘Why do republicans get away with blah blah blah’…. says ‘BECAUSE THEY ARE ASSHOLES”…. then I say a case could be made that that person hates America. At least a huge chunk of it.

Assuming, of course, that we republicans are considered part of America by the people you are making the case to.

sarainitaly says: “Bottom line, if Obama wants to do better in the polls, he needs to do better at his job, not at campaigning.”

The more Obama’s agenda gets through Congress, the more the right screams “Socialism,” but since Obama set a record for legislative accomplishments in his first term, it’s really baffling that anyone would believe that he should “do better at his job.” “Campaigning” as you put it, is conveying what his legislative successes will and do mean to the American people.

If Obama needs to do a better job as President, he needs to stop pussy-footing around with the right wing media. That was the point of Stewart’s rant: nothing Obama does is acceptable to Fox Propaganda.

    Media Matters sums it up:

Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh regularly tout their supposed accuracy and often claim their critics never prove them wrong. Fittingly, this in itself is a complete falsehood. Limbaugh and Beck are wrong for a living, but have been rewarded for their perpetual wrongness by assuming the role of the two most important cogs in the conservative media.

Every day, the conservative noise machine — Fox News, Beck, Limbaugh, and other prominent conservative talk radio hosts and bloggers — hurl false accusations with the hopes of damaging the Obama administration, Democrats, and progressives politically. Make no mistake: this is the primary motivation for the majority of the stories they promote. Pesky things like “facts” and “reality” are, at best, a trivial concern.

Often, these attacks are baseless, easily debunked, and laughably absurd — yet conservative media outlets rarely (if ever) offer corrections when they are proven wrong. Instead they either double down on their attacks or simply ignore that they were wrong in the first place and move on to the next overhyped bit of nonsense.
While it may seem like a minor story in the grand scheme of things, one example from this week perfectly exemplifies the utter lack of journalistic standards endemic to conservative media.

It says a lot about the state of the media when Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge, and other prominent media conservatives can be caught pushing a blatantly false story, offer no correction, and have their behavior met with a collective shrug. Conservative media outlets retain their unfortunate power and influence over the public discourse because they are able to lie largely without consequence.

They did it all this week, they did it all last week, and they’ll do it again next week.

Nope, I’m not moderate. Never said that I was. I’ve never even tried to give that air. I’m unabashedly liberal. I just believe that the perpetuation of vile rhetoric like yours will lead to the destruction of our nation long before any president could.

Gordon, the country was not ‘founded’ on revolution. We won our independence from a revolution but we were not founded on revolution. And we certainly were not ‘founded’ on people who wanted to hang the king. In fact, the country was pretty split at the time of the revolution.

There is a difference between the words ‘on’ and ‘by’.

Our country was founded in regards to the enlightenment era principles of open debate, the honest exchange of ideas, and reason. Our government is supposed to function with our elected representation engaging in open, honest debate and reaching a compromise. Unfortunately, with fundamentalist idealogues such as yourself becoming the norm, we can no longer reach compromise. All that is left are two political parties that are more interested in yelling at each other and acting like children than they are working together to find solutions to the nation’s problems.

“For 8 years the media and the left attacked Bush on every front. ”

WHICH media? Other than the fledgling progressive media – which generally “attacked” Bush with factual information, I know of scant serious inquiry by the corporate media at-large into arguably the most corrupt administration in this country’s history. Only toward the end of their last term, when Bush, Cheney and Rove could no longer conceal the magnitude of their malfeasance, did Big Media finally begin to even take a cursory look.

Except for Fakes News, of course, which never met a corporate stooge it didn’t like.

Stewart is quite right. As the de facto propaganda arm of the Republicant Party, Fakes News has taken every possible “cheep shot” at Obama and his administration and will continue to do so. Repeatedly. Relentlessly.

The sheep that sit and watch in a glassy-eyed stupor while Fox tells them what to think rather than think for themselves – God forbid – can’t even ponder the possibility that they’re being lied to. Repeatedly. Relentlessly.

They have been programmed to fear and loathe a person they have never really even bothered to TRY to know – because they’ve been told not to. Repeatedly. Relentlessly.

They have been lulled into a state of “aggressive ignorance” toward anything remotely resembling analytical, impartial thought Repeatedly. Relentlessly. . . and willingly.

The biggest threat to our democracy isn’t Obama. It’s the calculated lies, half-truths and outright fabrications that pass for Fox “news” – and those who willingly and mindlessly capitulate to its brand of electronic fascism.
