Newt Gingrich Responds To Glenn Beck’s ‘Progressive’ Claim: ‘Depends On What Standard You’re Using’

GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich spoke with WGIR AM 610 and 96.7 the Wave’s Paul Westcott Monday, offering his reaction to recent statements made by Glenn Beck.

Westcott pointed to Beck’s recent appearance on Fox Business Network, where he referred to Gingrich as a “progressive.”

“What do you say to that sort of claim?” Westcott wanted to know.

Gingrich’s initial reaction? Laughter.

“Well, I don’t know,” he continued. “I mean, depends on what standard you’re using. You know, the fact is that I balanced the budget for consecutive four years. And we did so well cutting taxes and increasing employment. So people went back to work, they left welfare, they left food stamps, they left unemployment, the left Medicaid. Who else has a record of that level of achievement?”

“I worked with Reagan in ’79, ’80,” he added. “I worked with Reagan for eight years in defeating the Soviet empire. I think those are relatively conservative credentials.” Invoking Reagan? That’s ten Conservative Points right there, naturally.

Well wait, he actually has a point. Gallup reported last week that this is the most fluid race they’ve seen in decades, since 1960′s. So there’s something going on here that hasn’t happened in a while. I think it’s because GOP is desperate to kick Obama out, so the candidates are going under even more scrutiny than usual.

Why did Newt say he loved FDR, admired Woodrow Wilson and thought SEIU president Andy Stearn was a great guy in the past? I am concerned about having another Progressive president…we have had enough of the one we have…Newt needs to answer the above questions…I was supporting him then this news came out…we the voters need to know the truth Newt.
