Former USDA official Shirley Sherrod has been the story of the day, as the emerging context to the remarks that got her fired yesterday have turned her from racial villain to inspiration overnight. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack demanded her resignation because of a clip posted on the internet by Andrew Breitbart, despite her protestations that the full tape would exonerate her.

Former USDA official Shirley Sherrod has gone from racial villain to inspiration overnight, but the emerging context to the remarks that got her fired yesterday seem to make little or no difference to Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. Despite the fact that Sherrod explained to her superiors that the full speech exonerated her of what was suggested in the edited clip, Vilsack stands by the firing. Additionally, a White House official tells Mediaite that this decision was Vilsack’s alone.

The wife of Roger Spooner, the “white farmer” described in the Youtube clip that spurred former USDA official Shirley Sherrod‘s firing, called in to CNN this afternoon to defend her “close friend.” The best news from the interview is that Roger is alive and well, despite reports to the contrary. The interview supports Sherrod’s claim that her firing was unwarranted, and also promises to reconnect her with the Spooners, who credit her with saving their farm.

In the latest in a series of racially-charged summer shark-week stories, USDA official Shirley Sherrod has resigned over a Breitbart-promoted YouTube clip that shows a portion of her March 27 speech at an NAACP banquet. In the clip, Sherrod talks about resenting a white farmer’s condescending attitude, and as a result, not giving him “the full force of what I could do.” The NAACP and the Secretary of Agriculture have weighed in, but there may be more to this story than meets YouTube’s 2-minute eye.

An edited two-minute clip of an African American United States Department of Agriculture official has brought about her resignation after BigGovernment.com published it yesterday.

Shirley Sherrod has resigned, the NAACP has condemned her “shameful” comments about withholding help for a white farmer and Sherrod has said she was taken out of context.

The plot surrounding the possible capture of Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar continues to thicken. Who knows what about the whereabouts of Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar has been a hot topic this week since Big Government broke the story of his capture and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton accused the Pakistani government of knowing where he is. While no confirmations have surfaced, Foreign Policy is reporting that today, finally, a senior Pakistani official has responded directly to the report and refuted it, but Big Government and its proprietor, Andrew Breitbart, and not backing down.

Early yesterday evening, the biggest victory in the Afghanistan War quietly slinked onto the internet– brought to you by the site made famous for sending a fake pimp and prostitute to expose ACORN’s shady ties to child sex trafficking. Big Government exclusively broke the news that Taliban leader and close Osama bin Laden ally Mullah Mohammed Omar had been captured by Pakistani authorities, but with no further evidence than the words of “key intelligence sources,” they’re going to have to do a better job of convincing the media that the story is true.

Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann made an appearance on Fox News Sunday today and gave viewers something she often keeps to herself: a sensible run-down of the policies she takes issue with in the Obama administration. Host Chris Wallace, expecting the Bachmann that showed up on Hannity last week, brought up some of her more controversial statements, but she chose to reply with a level-headed defense of the Tea Party movement.

Since his arrival on the national scene, Michael Steele has been an inscrutable riddle to his colleagues. He tells party members to “shut up” and “get a life.” He fundraises at bondage-themed nightclubs. And when he wins, he wins big– see New Jersey and Massachusetts. Now, finally, some on the right are piping up in his defense, including Sarah Palin and Big Government “video technology start-up guy” Morgan Warstler.

On last night’s Daily Show, host Jon Stewart presented a segment called “You’re Not Helping,” in which he mocked the Harry Reid supporters who protested and egged the Tea Party Bus Tour this weekend. While the show’s production staff paid sufficient attention to detail to isolate a Zapruder-like still of the perpetrator, it seems as though they missed a larger detail. Or did they?

Conservative neo-Barnum Andrew Breitbart is featured in the clip, yet Stewart makes no mention of him. Was it a snub, or did Stewart simply not recognize Breitbart?

The last time Andrew Breitbart went to a large Tea Party-related event populated by liberals… well, the video speaks for itself. This time around, he got caught in the crossfire of an anti-Tea Party egg-throwing escapade– and was almost arrested after being accused of attacking Tea Partiers himself.

Don’t think the Tea Partiers are unaware of the recent criticisms cast at them regarding their potentially violent protest behavior– they’re just taking a “what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger” approach to the negative coverage. Today’s battlefield is the few feet of space between Missouri Congressman Russ Carnahan’s home lawn and the sidewalk before it, where Big Government‘s Jim Hoft defies Politico to prove the protesters put a coffin on private property.

Big Government– where else?– operative Jason Mattera dug through the original House health care bill from November to find an obscure gem allocating tax dollars to “treating ‘perpetrators of child sexual abuse who are Indian or members of an Indian household.’” Outraged that the health care bill would specifically cover child molesters, he went to seek answers from Congress’ most rational and polite liberal member: Alan Grayson.

Yesterday, Slate released the second in what appears to be a series of profiles in various publications on internet mogul Andrew Breitbart, and for a figure as polarizing as he is, writer Chris Beam paints a remarkably favorable picture. It’s not a glowing biographical sketch but it’s the most candid, three-dimensional look the public has ever gotten of him.

This has been a great week for conspiracy theorists as the U.S. Defense Department unveiled their new logo for their missiles system. Pictured on the left there, you can see how it bears a resemblance to President Barack Obama‘s campaign design. But also, the Islamic crescent symbol and and the Iranian Space logo.

Hot off the heels of a career-boosting weekend, Andrew Breitbart took to Fox News’ late-night politically incorrect safe space Red Eye to chat with host Greg Gutfeld, giving the public a peek into the polemic’s mind. This Breitbart, however, was not the blisteringly aggressive soldier of truth that strolled the hotel lobby for leftists to publicly humiliate in viral YouTube videos, but a jolly – albeit obstinate – David laughing at how quickly his Goliaths are going down.

Conservative vigilante videographer James O’Keefe was a man of the web — making a name for himself online, most notably at Big Government, but also on the sites that tracked his exploits (ahem). Then Fox News took notice — and how could they not? Now, O’Keefe and his associates have landed on the front page of the New York Times — but not exactly under ideal circumstances.

James O’Keefe has published a statement about this week’s misadventures in Mary Landrieu’s office on Andrew Breitbart’s site Big Government. Whether or not what it discloses is the same ‘truth’ O’Keefe hopes will “set him free” remains to be seen. If so, he may be in for a rocky ride. Apparently, O’Keefe went to Landrieu’s in disguise and that’s just the beginning of the story.

James O’Keefe — the upstart investigative filmmaker whose undercover video work got ACORN’s federal funding stripped — has been arrested by the FBI in Louisiana for attempting to wiretap the offices of Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu, according to the Times-Picayune. Mediaite chronicled O’Keefe’s rise to prominence last fall, from his big ACORN take down to his Fox News pimp costume. Update: the US Attorney’s office released details in a statement, after the jump.

Happy Anniversary Mr. President. Oy. In the words of Jake Tapper, “one of the bluest states in the nation just gave President Obama the WORST anniversary gift he could think of.” Or at least one of them. The day after recriminations and analysis has already started as everyone from the White House on down tries to figure out how this happened and what to do next. And not surprisingly, plenty of people are weighing in.

After seeing the stir caused by Andrew Breitbart’s “Ornament-Gate” story, I had to go back and review the footage and pictures that I shot of White House Christmas decorations a few weeks ago. Breitbart’s Big Hollywood made an eagle-eyed catch of an ornament that appeared to be mocking Chairman Mao, and leapt to his defense. Or something. I think we can do better than that. Without even looking, I found a White House display that featured nudity and beasts of burden. See if you can uncover a new “scandal:”
