Joe Scarborough On Sarah Palin’s Paul Revere Defense: ‘Everything’s A Gotcha Question With Her’

Video

The Morning Joe crew weighed in on Sarah Palin‘s Paul Revere story with laughter and pleas for the footage to stop. After seeing Palin’s initial comment that Revere “warned the British,” Joe Scarborough said “it’s just painful – wait was the defense as painful as the answer?”

Willie Geist introduced the clip of Palin’s defense by reminding the panel that the original question asked of Palin was “What have you seen so far today and what are you going to take away from your visit?” Palin defended her answer by saying “And in a shout-out, gotcha-type of question that was asked of me, I answered candidly. And I know my American history.” Mika Brzezinski asked Geist “please just don’t show this to us,” while Mark Halperin joked “it was a gotcha question, that cannot be disputed.” Scarborough couldn’t contain his laughter, concluding:

“Everything is a gotcha question with her, isn’t it? What newspapers do you read? Have you ever had Sanka? I mean everything is a gotcha question.”

Although Halperin suggested Palin did, in fact, give a lot of good answers elsewhere during her interview, he attempted to respond to Scarborough’s rhetorical question “not everything [is a gotcha question], just the ones where her answers aren’t good.”

When will Texas school books have the story of Paul Revere ringing his bells?

  • skponggol

    Joe and Mika:

“Our favorite Founding Father is Abraham Lincoln.”

  • skponggol

    Joe and Mika :

” Our knowledge of Paul Revere is only based on Henry Longfellow. In fact all our knowledge of American history and heritage is based on popular poems and fairy tales but not solld historical facts.”

  • skponggol

The American journalists account of Paul Revere is entirely based on the of Henry Longfellow’s poems. That’s why they are shocked and are unable to accept the historical truths that Revere did in fact tell the British about the number of American patriots.

It seems that most school children are bringing poems and folk tales to attend their history classes and score straight As for the exam.

I bet Obama and his journalists cronies sneak thru their Ivy Leaks education by reading popular poems and fairy tales. In fact, I believe that Obama manages the American economy based on reading poetry and folk tales, that’s why the economy sucks under Obama.

American journalists are reducing American history and heritage to mere popular poems, fairy tales and folklores. Is America history now so dirt cheap ? Sad and pathetic.

    American journalism sucks.

    Oh no: the Weiners up!

In a post on his website Big Government, published in the wee hours of Monday morning, Andrew Breitbart is claiming that a new woman has come forward with claims of owning a “cache of intimate photos and online communications” with Rep. Anthony Weiner. In the brief and provocative post, Breitbart alleges that this appears to “undermine severely” Weiner’s explanation that he was the victim of a prank, though it is not yet clear whether or not Breitbart is in possession, or has seen, this alleged evidence.

    Breitbart opens his post:

A new woman has come forward with what she claims are photographs, chats, and emails with Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY). These appear to undermine severely Rep. Weiner’s explanations that he was the victim of a “prank” or a “hack.”

The detailed new information suggests that the Brooklyn- and Queens-based representative and the young woman in question were involved in an online, consensual relationship involving the mutual exchange of intimate photographs.

The post ends with Breitbart alerting readers that his sites Big Government and Big Journalism will be “releasing photographs, timelines, and other clarifying details,” adding that some information will not be released because “some of it is of an extreme, graphic nature.”

You know how Sarah Palin said Paul Revere warned the British? Well, he did. Now, who looks stupid?

You may have heard recently something about that Sarah Palin telling a reporter that Paul Revere warned the British on his famous rousing revolutionary ride.

Now, that so many Americans have wallowed in their smug confirmation that Palin is an idiot unqualified for anything but repeating sixth-grade history, how far, wide and fast do you think the contradictory news will spread that the former governor of Alaska was indeed correct?

That the Republican non-candidate, in fact, knew more about the actual facts of Revere’s midnight ride than all those idiots unknowingly revealing their own ignorance by laughing at her faux faux pas? How secretly embarrassing this must be, to be forced to face that you’re dumber than the reputed dummy.

At the risk of disappointing Joe Scarborough and other liberal commentators, I would like to point out that Palin was correct in her major assertions regarding Paul Revere.
First, the left has had great fun with the proposition that Revere warned the British. On the night of his ride, after successfully spreading the warning for several hours that the British were coming, Revere and two companions were captured by a British patrol. During interrogation Revere warned the British that they would be met with armed resistance if they tried to enter Lexington and Concord the next day. Palin 1. Press 0.
Second, the left has heaped ridicule on Palin for suggesting that the reason for the incidents at Lexington and Concord was related to the colonists possession of arms. In fact, the proximate reason for British entry into Lexington and Concord on the day in question was to confiscate a cache of arms reportedly being amassed by the colonists at Concord. Palin 2. Press 0.

Actually, what I find most offensive about Palin is her total self-absorption. That’s also beneficial, however. Palin’s self absorption is a vacuum, a powerful vacuum, more a Dyson than a Hoover, that sucks up all the energy from all the other people in the room, but not just the room, everything and everyone “out there”, and Milka and Joe recognize that. There are lots of valid criticisms of Sarah Palin, but the media needs to stop trying to paint her as stupid when she makes statements that are in fact historically accurate. Criticism of her Paul Revere statement seems to be driven by historical ignorance on the part of the media. Kind of like when they criticized her for her reference to the year 1773 (the year of the Boston Tea Party).

“The first to dispute Palin’s critics was … Paul Revere himself. In his own account of the ride, written twenty-three years later, Revere recounts how the British captured him, and how he attempted to dissuade the British from advancing. Revere warned that he had roused the local militias and that there would soon be 500 or more armed citizens coming together to repel the British.”

A Boston University history professor told the Herald that Revere did indeed warn the British as well as the Americans earlier in his ride:

Boston University history professor Brendan McConville said, “Basically when Paul Revere was stopped by the British, he did say to them, ‘Look, there is a mobilization going on that you’ll be confronting,’ and the British are aware as they’re marching down the countryside, they hear church bells ringing — she was right about that — and warning shots being fired. That’s accurate.”

I think the problem that Palin is experiencing is that either she or her PR crew somehow think that she can get through every non-FNC interview or QA session with her charm alone. She can’t. Politicians either sound too rehearsed with their responses or they sound like they’re avoiding the question when they go unrehearsed. To me, she seems the type that wants to seem “real” BUT, you can still sound unrehearsed but be rehearsed. She needs to be better prepped for these. Her PR team is doing her a huge dis-service by not coaching or advising her before hand. It doesn’t take much to do that. PR folks have been doing the same thing for hollywood starletts for decades, they can do it here.

I agree with Scarborough. This is too painful to watch. Looks like Palin will be the new Goldwater, or Bob Dole, who is popular with the far right portion of the GOP but does not attract many votes from the middle. Obama gets re-elected. Four years from now we’ll have an economy like Brazil’s. And we’ll have four more years of no leadership, with accusations at the other side for all our problems. Schaeffer was right to skewer Pelosi on this. It is the president’s job to lead. What is his plan, apart from getting re-elected ?

I agree with you about this. Palin could have used the time since November 2008 to take some diction and speech lessons (one can be folksy without being shrill and disjointed), to learn some basic facts and information and to formulate policy initiatives. She didn’t. At this point, the responsibility rests on her.

Both of these men were good and decent. Goldwater had some ideas so radical, that they were troubling. But, he was also sensible, grounded and practical. I admired him greatly. I’m afraid he exercised too little control on the zealots supporting him, and they transformed him into a radical unacceptable to middle America.

Dole was always an enigma to me. I’m not sure Republicans ever coalesced around him, and he ended up being the “not Clinton”. That doesn’t give too much to support.

I’m not sure how Palin fits in with all of this, except she provides an excuse for poor party performance. When the mainstream part reasserts itself, she will be a convenient scapegoat.

. . . This is the exact same way it was for Democrats in 2004. So sure that Bush was going down. Not because they liked Kerry, but because they hated Bush.

Well said. I was one of those pulling for Kerry. This time, I’ll be pulling for whoever runs against Obama. He could have left a great legacy, had he attacked the economy first and then turned to health care. As it is, all he will leave behind is a turgid economy and a nation more divided than ever.

Hard as it is to believe, some people have an irrational hatred of Palin. They don’t just disagree with her politics, but hate her so badly that they even extend that hatred to her children. I know it’s stupid and demented for anyone to feel that way over politics, but many do.

If you took away the trivial gotcha games played by the liberal media, they wouldn’t have anything left to say. They certainly won’t address Palin’s call for a smaller, more accountable government. In fact, they won’t even MENTION that. Not a whisper.

What a revealing state of affairs: the media runs 100,000 articles on Palin but never mentions the key issues that she is advocating? Can you imagine a more intellectual dishonest approach to covering the news? But that’s the state of mainstream American media when liberal “progressive” journalists call the shots.

It’s gotten to the point that you can tell the important issues of the days only by looking at the omissions in the daily news. Here’s a tip to those who want to understand what’s really going on in America: as a general rule, if the media attacks a politician day after day, but never mentions what that politician is advocating, you can be sure that the real story is being hidden from you.

Oh it goes BEYOND just lil miss Palin. The current state of media LOVES catching prominent figures off guard because it makes for good TV…and makes money. This is why shows like TMZ are so popular because people love the hilarity of someone famous being a normal schmuck and not being perfect as we, viewing public, expect them to be. People love that info-porn.

Not possible ! No human being could be that low , disgusting and evil to involve anyone’s children , judging them , making up juvenile nicknames , and villifying them as if they did not deserve to be left alone as most innocent creatures are in their only childhood . To do that , one would be a true disciple of Satan .

Sarah Palin yesterday insisted her claim at the Old North Church last week that Paul Revere “warned the British” during his famed 1775 ride — remarks that Democrats and the media roundly ridiculed — is actually historically accurate. And local historians are backing her up.

Palin prompted howls of partisan derision when she said on Boston’s Freedom Trail that Revere “warned the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free.”

Palin insisted yesterday on Fox News Sunday she was right: “Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there. That, hey, you’re not going to succeed. You’re not going to take American arms.”

In fact, Revere’s own account of the ride in a 1798 letter seems to back up Palin’s claim. Revere describes how after his capture by British officers, he warned them “there would be five hundred Americans there in a short time for I had alarmed the Country all the way up.”

“What have you seen so far today, and what are you going to take away from your visit?”

    That’s a gotcha question.

Seeing how the moderation is going, I must agree with the left’s position that it’s perfectly acceptable to mock Sarah’s children.

The actual “gotcha question” was rather benign: “What have you seen so far today, and what are you going to take away from your visit?”

So, Mourning Joe is just as dumb as that gal on CNN and as dumb as Howie?

    Say it ain’t so.

And yes, the media turned it into a gotcha moment when they went after her answer, and desapite the fact that local historians agree with Palin, the idiot lefty liberal tv lunatics will never issue her the well-deserved apology.

Maybe Maher and all the others should apologize to Sarah Palin for all the ridicule and insults; according to Cornell law professor William Jacobson, Palin’s critics are the ones in need of a history lesson.

“Lady Liberty is the symbol of unity and friendship we have with other freedom-loving nations. It’s also a “warning” of sorts, as France encouraged us to keep democracy alive as the recipient of this gift… basically telling us not to blow it. Thank you for this reminder, France!” she wrote in her Facebook June 1, 2011

But, that is not the first time that Sarah has interpreted the gift given to the people of the United States by France. In Sept 2010, Sarah (appearing with Glenn Beck) said that it was a “warning against socialism”.
I don’t know how she accounts for the writing:

“Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

    Emma Lazarus, 1883

Sarah is not into “poor, wretched refuse, and huddled masses

Right, I get that she somehow interpreted it as a “gotcha” question. I guess I thought you agreed that it was. My wires got crossed there.
