Rachel Maddow’s Restrained And Poignant Report Of Obama’s Visit To Ground Zero

video

Almost immediately after President Obama announced the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden, the politicization of the capture and killing of bin Laden began. And oddly, the political playbooks of right and left appeared to be swapped: some traditionally progressive outlets were lauding Obama’s “victory” trip to Ground Zero while other outlets known for a conservative bent were focusing on the seemingly inappropriate politics involved.

But last night, Rachel Maddow once again showed how its done, chronicling every detail of Obama’s visit without one word of judgment, celebration or aspersion.

The following segment reminds us that sometimes all one needs to do is report on the events as they happen, letting the viewer make their own conclusion. Yes, some cynics are sure to see this segment as hagiography, but its worth pointing out that in the age of opinion media, its can be much more effective to leave opinions out. Or put another way, just the facts ma’am.

yes it’s opinions about cable news and it’s often against msnbc. I guess that means they have a liberal bias.

Yes, some cynics are sure to see this segment as hagiography,

I think you mean, some “cynics are sure to see this article as hagiography.”

But on the plus side, since it’s Rachel Maddow, we’re all pretty used to it.

You’re going to have to forgive a few “cynical” folks for thinking Maddow’s treatment of this event might be more significant and laudable if it hadn’t been a kid gloves treatment of a Democratic president whose self-congratulation over this issue surely tweaks HER sense of propriety over issues of militarism, more than it does the public at large.

And we’ll try to forgive you for being so pandering and obtuse.

When one left wing organization, in this instance MEDIAite, feel the need to proffer a headline such as ” Rachel Maddow’s Restrained And Poignant Report Of Obama’s Visit To Ground Zero ” regarding the actions of one of this countries preeminent left wing bomb throwers, can only mean one thing ……..

    SPIKING THE FOOTBALL….

“Obama in NYC for measure of 9/11 closure”

A crass, tasteless, offensive, shameful VICTORY-LAP CAMPAIGN-FOR-RE-ELECTION show from”You Lie!” hussein.

Interesting fact: although “You Lie!” hussein has been in office for more than two (disastrous) years, and the suspected location of osama has been known for months (he’s lived in that compound for more than six years), osama is killed ONLY AFTER “You Lie!” begins his re-election campaign, ensuring maximum campaign publicity.

Anybody wanna buy an “obozo killed osama” tea-shirt? All proceeds go to “You Lie!”‘s re-election campaign.

BTW: “obozo killed the US economy” and “obozo killed US jobs” T-shirts are NOW ON SALE by Americans who want to TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY. All proceeds go to restoring America’s greatness.

Maybe he should have landed on an aircraft carrier with a MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner on it and shot a campaign commercial – all at taxpayers’ expense. No, wait . . . that’s been done.

Bush’s self-serving display occurred under somewhat similar circumstances – except that the “mission” was far from “accomplished.” His swaggering chest-thumping stands in vivid and embarrassing contrast to the allegedly “arrogant” Obama’s restraint.

Nonsense. Obama invited Giuliani, as well, who was treated graciously. The only complaints I’ve heard about Rudy were from the cons.

I think Bush was worried about negative reactions from people who have come to realize that he bears a portion of the blame for what happened. His August ’01 Presidential briefing (“Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the U.S.”) – and his apparent inaction on that briefing – has become widely known.

Bush took the longest presidential vacation IN HISTORY after that briefing, appearing to avoid returning to D.C. until after the 9/11 attacks.

The Lantern’s “pilot light” has obviously gone out . . . assuming it was ever “lit.”

good you forgot this one: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/msnbcs-cenk-uygur-spends-half-of-his-show-on-donald-trump/
“In this case, Uygur spends the first segment of his show talking about the Birther issue with Bill Press and Pat Buchanan (whom Uygur notes used to co-host their own 6pm show on MSNBC), and while they all do a decent job of dismissing the craziness, they neglect to mention that the President can’t release his original birth record, whether he wants to or not. When the second segment came on, I thought, “Really? Do we really need another 12 minutes on Trump?”

“So now all of a sudden a trip to Ground Zero has no political implications whatsoever, and along with Bin Laden’s death, serves as a reminder of Obama’s unparalleled national security experience? Maybe it’s too cynical to point out the disconnect between the reaction to Bush’s and Obama’s encounters with 9/11 remembrance, when Bin Laden’s death has now made everyone feel so patriotic. Yet if that’s case, let us never forget that moving forward remembering the victims of 9/11 should never again be considered politically exploitative if a Republican is the one suggesting it.”

so you would say that major combat was in fact over? That there weren’t huge casualities after that? It is under tv, just as the cenk story was under tv at a certain point. They moved it into columns to make way for newer stories, that’s how the site works. talk about changing the subject! seriously, you didn’t hear the cia chief say the video feed on the soldier’s helmets got cut off for 25 minutes? What a stupid remark. You know full well that:

    1) The White Hose was reporting information as they received it.

    2) Early reports of incidents are almost always incorrect.

  • Cecelia

What makes me laugh is the distaste you sense from liberals over this wonderfully successful mission.

It’s as though they would have been more comfortable if the president had sent a team of UN trauma counselors into OBL’s lair, and persuaded to him to give himself up and then make mea culpa rounds on the cable channels.

THAT would have confirmed their view of how seriously this ‘terrorism stuff’ should have been taken, and just who are the REAL evil guys in the world (Republicans).

Personally, I only wish that the Navy Seals could have “executed’ everyone in that compound TWICE.

Rachel took pains to avoid talking about Obimbo’s support to the Muslim bid to build in the area over the objections of almost everyone. Why would she omit that? Would that have made Obimbo’s appearance at the sight seem less than sincere, and a little more contrived looking? Well now, Maddow wouldn’t want to give credence to that, would she?

Perhaps she didn’t need to take pains because the issue of an Islamic culture center doesn’t mean jack shit?

Sometimes all you need to do is report on the events as they happen, letting the viewer make their own conclusion. Yes, some cynics are sure to see this segment as hagiography, but its worth pointing out that in the age of opinion media, its sometimes much more effective to leave opinions out. Or put another way, just the facts ma’am. ”
