Watch: Dan Abrams Talks About Teen Mom Fight On Today Show
Yesterday, Mediaite publisher and founder Dan Abrams stopped by The Today Show to discuss a nasty fight caught on tape. (No, not that one.)
As Jeff Rossen explained at the beginning of the segment, Amber Portwood of MTV’s Teen Mom is currently under investigation for kicking and punching her ex-fiance, Gary Shirley. The assaults—which included Portwood snarling, “I swear to God, I wish I was bigger than you! I’d f—ing beat your ass!”—were caught on camera and aired on the show. The couple’s daughter Leah was in the room during one of the incidents.
After that introduction, Matt Lauer turned to Abrams and another guest, psychiatrist Janet Taylor, to get their take. Speaking in his capacity as NBC’s Chief Legal Analyst, Abrams explained how prosecutors absolutely have enough evidence to take Portwood to court if they want to—even if Shirley doesn’t press charges.
Additionally, the camera crew that stood by and filmed the fight without stepping in to help Gary could face legal action: “If the prosecutors decide to get aggressive here, they could actually prosecute people that had reason to believe that child abuse was occurring. They could prosecute them for a misdemeanor for not reporting it.”
