Governor Jerry Springer? Some Ohio Democrats Seem to Want It

Jerry SpringerJerry! Jerry! Ohio Democrats are pushing hard for Jerry Springer, the daytime TV host and former Cincinnati mayor, to run for governor of Ohio in 2018.

Springer actually tried to get the Democratic nomination for governor back in 1982, and is active in state politics. And now that reality-TV experience is the prerequisite for a successful election, he might just fare better this time around.

Ted Strickland, former Ohio governor, told Business Insider that he discussed a possible run with Springer, and said that he “certainly would start out with wide name recognition,” and that he “has a very strong ability to communicate what I think is the heart of the Democratic message.” Oddly enough, Strickland didn’t mention how Springer got caught patronizing a lady of the night by using a personal check to pay for her services while serving on Cincinnati’s city council.

Tim Burke, the Hamilton County Democratic Party chairman, doesn’t “think Jerry has said no, but he certainly hasn’t said yes, either.”

He should probably skip governor altogether and go straight for president. After all, he did tell Mediaite’s Jon Levine that he’d consider running. Springer/Povich 2020!
