CA Cop Resigns After Uproar over Video Joking About Running Cyclists Over
A California police officer got in trouble over the weekend for a YouTube video she posted making fun of bicyclists and joking about how she’d love to run them over. The Santa Paula Police Department apologized for Laura Weintraub‘s video and put her on administrative leave, but now Weintraub has resigned from the department.
In the video, posted this past Friday, Weintraub was on the hunt for cyclists so she can “run over some… er, run into some.” She mocks and shouts at every cyclists they pass by, and says to the driver, “How much would I have to pay you to run one of these over?”
On Saturday, the department posted on its Facebook page that Weintraub was placed on administrative leave, along with a volunteer who had posted a comment defending the video.
They were, of course, somewhat embarrassed by the incident, and according to ABC News, the police chief accepted Weintraub’s resignation yesterday. She reportedly received several death threats as a result of the video.
