Earnest on Obama Calling Cameron ‘Bro’: ‘That’s a Clown Question, Bro’
It was bound to happen, right? White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest was asked about that report over the weekend in which British Prime Minister David Cameron said President Barack Obama calls him “bro” as a term of endearment, and that the two leaders share a relationship that is “stronger than it has ever been privately and in public.”
CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett asked Earnest if Obama actually does call Cameron “bro” — a claim he did not deny — and Earnest jokingly told him, “that’s a clown question, bro.” Earnest, of course, got that line from Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper, who famously said that to a reporter who asked him about his drink of choice.
“I am not able to give much more insight about the private communications between the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,” Earnest said sternly, adding once-and-for-all that he has no reason to doubt Cameron’s assertion — “because, as you know, they have a special relationship.”
