Howard University Increases Security After Online Threats
Washington, D.C. historically black college Howard University has increased security after an online threat.
Howard has not provided further details to local media, other than to say that the threat was directed towards it student and campus. But at least one Howard student told NBC Washington that the threat was on 4chan, and provided a screencap.
One image, supposedly from 4chan, has been circulating on social media. “Any n*****s left at Howard University after 10 tomorrow will be the first to go,” the post reads. “And any of those cheapskate n*****s who try to get out using the metro will regret that choice real fast.”
The FBI is currently investigating whether the Umqua Community College shooter posted a warning on 4chan the day before the attack. Two individuals were also recently arrested for making terroristic threats on social media against the University of Missouri, at least one of whom appears to have been using a 4chan meme.
UPDATE (2:04 PM ET): Police tell CBS News that they are currently in the process of “assessing the credibility” of the threat.
