Maher on Macron Hacking Attack: ‘Very Hard to Slander a Guy Who Married His Mom’
It was reported yesterday that the campaign of French presidential candidate Emmanuel Macron was the victim of a massive hacking attack. A large trove of emails was dumped online less than two days before France goes to the polls to choose its next president. Unsurprisingly, most of the fingers are being pointed at Russia as being behind the attack.
During last night’s Overtime segment of Real Time with Bill Maher, host Bill Maher brought up the hacking while also noting that Macron may not be as prone to scandal due to his own personal history.
‘Macron has a, shall we say, different personal background than most politicians to begin with,” the comedian stated. “It’s very hard to slander a guy who married his mom.”
After some uncomfortable laughter from the panel and audience, Maher pointed out that Macron met his wife, Brigitte Trogneux, when he was 15 and she was his high-school drama teacher. The French presidential frontrunner would eventually marry her in 2007 when he was 29 and she was 54.
Currently, Macron is way up in the polls, with the latest one showing him holding a 26-point lead over Marine Le Pen, his far-right opponent.
