Men’s Rights Group Raises $25K to Hire Security Against ‘Ruthless Ideologues’
A men’s rights group has raised $25,000 to provide extra security at its upcoming first International Conference on Men’s Issues in Detroit, claiming that “ruthless ideologues” were trying to “silence” them.
“We are launching this campaign because our upcoming International Conference on Men’s Issues in Detroit, Michigan, featuring a lineup of world renowned experts on gender issues, has been jeopardized by threats of death and violence to the hotel employees and guests where we are scheduled to present,” Paul Elam, founder of A Voice for Men, wrote on the fundraising page.
The money raised will provide extra officers for the hotel, which complained to the group about safety concerns. There is no word on the type or extent of threats or who made them; a spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department said they had received no reports of threats.
However, A Voice for Men seems pretty convinced of their source. Accompanying the fundraising request was a video featuring supporters saying, “I am a critic of feminism. I am an advocate of men and boys. And feminists are trying to silence me.”
“Please do not let these bullies stop us from bringing attention to issues that affect your sons, brothers, fathers, husbands, boyfriends and the women who love them,” Elam said.
