Michael Cohen Will Flip If He’s Charged By the Government, Ex-Trump Lawyer Says
Jay Goldberg, Trump lawyer of yore, warned President Donald Trump in a phone call Friday that Michael Cohen, Trump lawyer of recent past, would turn on POTUS if threatened with jail time.
Goldberg told The Wall Street Journal that he told Trump that on a scale of 1 to 100 of protecting the president, Cohen “isn’t even a 1.” Ouch.
Trump called Goldberg to seek counsel on what he should do regarding Cohen. Goldberg was Trump’s lawyer in the 1990s and 2000s for real estate and divorce matters.
To make this revelation more ironic, just this month Cohen tweeted: “I will always protect our @POTUS.”
Goldberg also told Trump that Cohen could wear a wire during his conversations with the president. “You have to be alert,” he said he told Trump. “I don’t care what Michael says.”
He spoke to WSJ from his experience prosecuting mafia members. “The mob was broken by Sammy ‘The Bull’ Gravano caving in out of the prospect of a jail sentence,” Goldberg said.
Goldberg also said he advised Trump, upon the president’s asking about the matter, to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and not to submit to an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller.
“Talking is a certain trap,” he allegedly said to the president. “Don’t ever do it.”
