Paul Manafort Reportedly Tipped Off Congress to Don Jr. Russia Meeting

Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian attorney who claimed to have dirt on Hillary Clinton dominated the headlines for a significant portion of July. Now, it appears we know how authorities were tipped off to the meeting in the first place.

The source? None other than Paul Manafort — President Donald Trump‘s former campaign manager.

According to Bloomberg, Manafort first told Congress about the meeting approximately three months ago. He then alerted authorities on June 9.

Jared Kushner, who was also in on the meeting, appeared before closed door sessions of the House and Senate Intelligence committees to answer questions about the discussion.

The news comes one day after the Washington Post reported that the FBI raided Manafort’s home on July 26.

In remarks to the press pool on Thursday, Trump expressed sympathy for his former campaign manager.

“I thought it pretty tough stuff to wake him up, perhaps his family was there,” Trump said. “I think that’s pretty tough stuff.”
