Piers Morgan: Americans Won’t Like the World Cup Until They Win

Without a CNN show to host every night, Piers Morgan seems to be spending most of his time watching (and playing) soccer. So naturally, that’s what a TMZ reporter decided to ask him about when he spotted him standing outside an Italian restaurant in Los Angeles last night.

Morgan weighed in on Brazil’s devastating 7-1 loss to Germany in yesterday’s World Cup semi-finals match, calling it “the most incredible thing” he’s ever seen in his 49 years watching the sport. He said it was “worse than embarrassing” for Brazil to be “crushed in their own backyard” by Germany.

The former CNN’er and current football fanatic also had a message for all those Americans who are having trouble getting excited about the World Cup. “Americans will love the World Cup and football — proper football — when you win,” he said. “Americans like to win things.”

We have to assume all of this means his self-imposed exile won’t be going into effect any time soon.
