School Bans Girl’s 9/11 Shirt for Dress Code Violation
A California school told a sixth-grade girl this week that she couldn’t wear her 9/11 memorial shirt on the anniversary of that horrible day because it violated the school’s dress code. And her father, a military veteran who served two tours in Iraq, isn’t happy with the school’s decision.
School policy states that students are required to wear shirts with the school logo and name on it. Tim Foster was hoping the school would make an exception for his daughter because of the significance of the date. He said his family wears the shirt every year in memory of the lives that were lost that day.
The school explained that students are free to wear different shirts on “free dress day,” but this year September 11th did not fall on that day.
