Trump’s Allies Are Reportedly Encouraging Him Not To Talk To Special Counsel Mueller
At yesterday’s joint presser with the Norwegian prime minister, President Donald Trump said it was “unlikely” that he’d do an interview with Special Counsel Robert Mueller in his Russia investigation. Adding that he’ll see “what happens,” the president noted that they “have no collusion” to make the case that it won’t be necessary.
Per a new report by CNN today, it would appear that those close to Trump are advising him to stay away from Mueller and not submit to an interview request.
Close advisers and friends of President Donald Trump are warning him not to sit for an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller, with some expressing skepticism that there would be any circumstance in which it makes sense to voluntarily submit to an interview, according to multiple sources familiar with the ongoing discussions.
While CNN pointed out that those pushing the president to avoid Mueller include “key allies on Capitol Hill” and lawyers on his team, they also highlighted that there are other Trump supporters that say he should cooperate in a way that “limits his potential legal exposure.”
Meanwhile, as CNN further reported, with Mueller indicating he wants to talk to the president, Trump’s lawyers are weighing whether or not to cede to that request. The legal team’s decision apparently hinges on the type of questions Mueller will ask and if that info “can be obtained elsewhere.”
