President Trump is holding an event at the White House today as he prepares to sign the Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act.
The VA Accountability Bill is intended to make it easier for the Department of Veterans Affairs to fire and take disciplinary measures against employees for misconduct. The act also supposedly offers protection to federal employees who report any wrongdoings in their departments
“The administration is committed to ensuring the nation’s veterans have access to the care, services, and benefits they have earned,” the White House said in a statement picked up by USA Today. “To achieve this goal, it is critical that employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) are held to the highest performance standards, and that they are accountable when those standards are not met.”
WTKR notes that the bill received bipartisan support in Congress, where it passed with a vote of 368-55 in the House of Representatives. The bill also saw significant approval in the Senate.
