ABC’s Jon Karl: That Was the ‘Strangest Bill Signing’ I’ve Ever Seen (If It Even Was One)

President Trump announced today he’s signing the omnibus spending bill, despite his earlier veto threat, in what ABC’s Jon Karl described as the “strangest bill signing” he’s ever seen.

During ABC News’ special report on the President’s remarks this afternoon, Karl admitted he was a little perplexed:

“That is the strangest bill signing, if it was a bill signing, that I have ever seen covering the White House. The President railed against the bill, said there are many things in this bill––this massive spending bill––that he does not like, that he’s unhappy with, and then he alternated and praised the bill and then he went off on tangents about trade deals. It was a very odd bill signing.”

On Twitter, Karl also called it “the veto, not-veto, signing, not-signing ceremony.”

Earlier today Trump tweeted that he’s considering a veto, but ultimately decided to sign the bill today. He made it clear he wasn’t happy and said he would never sign a bill like this again.
