On CNN tonight, Jeffrey Lord defended President Trump having family members in his White House by pointing to what previous Presidents have done.
The panel was discussing whether Jared Kushner‘s security clearance would be revoked––unlikely at this point––and Anderson Cooper brought up how a Republican congressman recently said it might be better if the President didn’t have Jared Kushner or Ivanka Trump working for him.
Lord responded, “Presidents have been employing their children and other relatives since––as best as I can determine––John Adams made use of his son John Quincy.”
“Presidents trust whom they trust,” he added, “and the rest of us can agree or disagree.”
Ana Navarro said that there’s no way the President fires “his favorite daughter’s husband” even though he had to amend his security clearance form more than once.
When Lord brought up Hillary Clinton again, Navarro reacted, “On, for the love of God!… She is in the woods in Chappaqua picking up mushrooms. This man is in the White House, in the Oval Office, as the Commander-in-Chief.”
She also asked him if he would have had a problem with Chelsea Clinton sitting in for her father at the G20 like Ivanka did. Lord said no, and Navarro shot back, “Nobody watching believes you.”
