On Wednesday night, Fox News Politics Editor Chris Stirewalt warned Democrats about their handling of the sexual harassment allegations surrounding Sen. Al Franken and Rep. John Conyers.
Stirewalt first dismissed the significance of the “sad” news story of Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX), whose nude selfie and lewd texts were leaked online, and despite being humiliating and that it may end his career, it’s “different” from the scandals that have hit Democrats in recent days.
“For these Democrats, if they don’t get serious about Franken and about Conyers,” Stirewalt said, “they’re not going to be in a position to say anything about Roy Moore.”
He then explained the “total disaster” of a Senate candidate Moore is, but because Democrats are “so far have been unwilling to address” Franken and Conyers “in the right ways,” he asked, “what are they going to say?”
“And that’s exactly what President Trump is exploiting when he goes out and puts sort of half of bro hug on Roy Moore like, ‘Well if you can have Franken and you can have Conyers, then we can have Roy Moore,'” Stirewalt elaborated.
Shannon Bream noted that Conyers has no intention of resigning anytime soon. Stirewalt urged Franken to take a different path.
“He could step aside and another Democrat will fill his seat and the party can move on,” he continued. “The world does not need Al Franken. Al Franken is not curing polio. He’s one of 100 senators, no big deal. He can go on and do something else.”
