At the top of the 6pm hour Friday, CNN reported a witness who claims to have seen a man on fire on the Washington, D.C. mall earlier in the afternoon. “I saw a man sitting in flames,” the witness, Adam Stifel told CNN. “He had already doused himself in gasoline, I believe.”
Emergency personnel rushed to the scene to put out the flames and initial reports indicated that the man was conscious and breathing after the incident. Stifel said he had seen a red gasoline canister sitting beside the man.
The frightening incident comes just one day after a woman led police on a high-speed car chase in the same general area near the U.S. Capitol before getting shot and killed by the officers.
