Joe Manchin Bashes Pelosi’s ‘Make America White Again’ Remark: ‘Don’t Need That Type of Rhetoric’
Last week, in response to President Donald Trump’s latest immigration proposal, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said the president was looking to “make America white again.” This morning, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) criticized the Democratic leader’s remarks while suggesting that Democrats should try to negotiate with Trump on the issue.
Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union, Manchin was asked by host Jake Tapper to respond to Pelosi’s comments.
“You know what, we don’t need that type of rhetoric on either side — from Nancy, Paul Ryan or anybody else,” the West Virginia lawmaker stated. “And I come down this — the president has laid out a template. We’re going to look at that template. We’re going to look at that template and we’re going to work with it.”
After saying that there should be no more talk about a shutdown and that Trump has provided a “good starting point,” Manchin was questioned about his criticism of Pelosi.
“I’m condemning all this crazy rhetoric that goes on,” the senator responded. “Just because someone is Republican is not my enemy and we have to work together.”
