Matthews Apologizes For Saying He Was ‘Glad’ East Coast Hit By Hurricane Sandy: ‘Not Just Stupid, But Wrong’
Chris Matthews became the subject of controversy when he said he was “glad” that the devastating Hurricane Sandy hit the East Coast last week. On Wednesday, Matthews took to the set of Hardball where he offered a sincere and heartfelt apology for his expressing happiness about the storm’s political benefit which may have redounded to President Barack Obama.
Matthews explained that he was shocked by President Obama’s electoral strength as the election returns came in. He explained that, at 3 a.m. after 10 hours of coverage, he made a mistake by saying he was “glad” that America got hit by Hurricane Sandy.
“Is said something not just stupid but wrong,” Matthews said. “I said something that suggested ends justify means. Something I have never believe din my life and even thinking that way I think is an immoral way to live your life.”
“I intend to take serious steps to show that I am sincere on this,” Matthews added. “Please believe me, I am determined to do what I can to help the people who have already been hurt enough, who are suffering and have suffered enough hardship without hearing stupid stuff from me.”
