Sarah Sanders Faces Brutal Inquiry Over Pruitt’s ‘Sweetheart Deal’ With Lobbyist: ‘Why is the President OK With This?’
The controversy continues to swirl around EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt — who, among other ethical sins, rented a Washington, D.C. condo from a top lobbyist for $50 per night.
Fox News Radio’s John Decker called that arrangement a “sweetheart deal,” at Wednesday’s White House Press Briefing. And he asked Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders why President Donald Trump seems to be on board with Pruitt’s actions.
“As you know, Sarah, the president promised to drain the swamp,” Decker said. “His behavior, his actions seem very swamp-like. Why is the president okay with this?”
The reply from Sanders was far from a vote of confidence.
“The president’s not — we’re reviewing the situation,” Sanders said. “When we’ve had the chance to have a deeper dive on it we’ll let you know the outcomes of that. But we’re currently reviewing that here at the White House.”
Decker followed up.
“Does the president have confidence in the EPA administrator at this point?”
“The president thinks he’s doing a good job, particularly on the deregulation front,” Sanders said. “But again, we take this seriously, and we’re looking into it. And we’ll let you know.”
