Earlier today, President Donald Trump held one of those roundtable made-for-TV events he likes to hold so often in which he delivers a statement about the big policy of the day while surrounded by staff members and industry leaders. In this instance, it was to once again sell the GOP’s tax reform proposal as he sat with CEOs from various businesses.
Of course, the gathered press was just waiting for him to finish up his comments so they could toss him questions about THE major news story — the recent indictments of former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort and Manafort’s right-hand man (and Trump campaign staffer) Rick Gates, and the guilty plea by ex-Trump campaign advisor George Papadopoulos for lying to the FBI about his Russia ties.
After the president answered one question, another reporter asked Trump if he planned on pardoning Manafort. Trump completely ignored that query, merely saying “Thank you.” As reporters further shouted out questions related to the Mueller probe, including one about the president’s reaction to Papadopoulos’ plea, POTUS just kept repeating “thank you” until the press was shooed out.
