Trump Meets with WHCA Scholarship Winners, Jokes About Them Replacing Press Corps

President Donald Trump met with a group of aspiring journalists at the White House on Friday.

The young scholars were recipients of the White House Correspondents Association scholarship for students seeking a career in the media.

After shaking a few hands, however, Trump quickly turned the meet and greet into an opportunity to take a gentle jab at the press corps who funded the students’ scholarship program.

“They want to be reporters, can you believe it?” Trump said to the reporters corralled on the lawn, with Vice President Mike Pence standing nearby.

Then, turning to the students posed on the stairs, he quipped, “See if you can hurry up and replace them.”

Per reporters on the scene, the President at one point said journalism is a “great profession.”
