It’s been another manic week in politics, so of course, Saturday Night Live had a lot of material to choose from when they kicked off their latest show with jokes about President Trump.
In a comedic homage to the recent Bachelor finale, the cold open imagined a scenario where a contestant, Becca, gets a visit from her love interest, Robert Mueller. As the two catch up, the special counsel admits that “I just don’t think that I can give you everything that you want” in terms of indicting Trump for collusion with Russia.
Becca is despondent over the news, and in a conversation full of drama and romantic undertones, Mueller tries to console her by saying he might have a stronger case by pursuing other stuff, though he can’t “commit” to collusion. The special counsel keeps trying to be supportive, saying he was “ready to do the damn thing” if only he could’ve, but it might be best to accept that Trump will be in office for a while longer.
The Bachelor was frequently cited as a metaphor for politics in the last few days of Trump news, particularly because of the recent developments on the president’s affair with Stormy Daniels.
