A Petition to Cancel One of Trump’s Upcoming Rallies Almost Has 50,000 Signatures
When it comes to presidents — current and potential — online petitions seem to be one of the fastest and easiest ways for voters and constituents to make some noise. One presidential candidate has inspired quite a few petitions during the time since he announced his candidacy. Of course, that’s Donald Trump. One of those petitions even calls on NBC to reinstate him as the host of The Apprentice so he will drop out of the race.
Another petition, which is more recent, is trying to prevent Trump from speaking at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The thing has almost 50,000 signatures.
As The Daily Caller pointed out, the university is a public, taxpayer-funded institution, making the barring of Trump a little difficult. Then again, 50,000 is no small number; plenty of the taxpayers have made their concerns known.
Those concerns are that Trump’s campaign is one built on hate, which the creator of the petition, Jorge Mena Robles, feels has no business in Chicago. From the petition:
Donald Trump is running on a platform of hate and dangerous intolerance. It has no place in Chicago but especially not at an institution of higher learning.
In many instances Trump rallies have led to students, youth, and people of color being violently attacked by attendees.
UIC should not be host to hate. Please cancel the event.
