Bill Maher Calls Haiti Coverage “Disaster Porn”

After the earthquake in Haiti brought never-before seen devastation, the US media was lauded for its quick response and comprehensive coverage. And while one month later, the coverage of the disaster has abated rather dramatically, it still gets consistently thorough coverage on many outlets — which one might think is a good thing. Not so, says comedian/provocateur Bill Maher. Too much Haiti coverage? “It’s disaster porn” he says.

Talking about less spending, less debt, and fiscal conservatism is NOT a “shock” tactic, rather this sort of talk has been around for a long time. I have a few questions for you, Anthony. 1.) Do you watch GB? Or, do you ONLY watch the cherry picked “highlights” . 2.) If you choose to only watch the cherry picked highlights, doesn’t that make you unknowledgeable to make such assertions? 3.) Do you read much history?

What do you expect from a broken down old sex/drug addict looking for attention. He used to be interesting when he did “Politically Incorrect,” but now he is just a homely miserable nasty old guy who is one step from being Keith Olbermann.

The worst part of this was that when Maher smacked down the Haiti coverage LK just sat there with a stupid look on his face and Anderson, who spent 3 weeks in Haiti, didn’t even bother challenging him on it during his interview with Maher.

Maher is pathetic. First, his shtick was hating women, now his shtick is hating Americans. Of course, the person Billy really hates is himself. We’re talking about a man that exclusively dates strippers and hookers, is a lifer(ie, loser)of the Playboy mansion and who, despite claims to the contrary, is really really dumb. He never knows more about a given subject than can fit on one of those blue cards he clutches during his show. Well, with the exception of where to find a pro at 3am in any given city.

When challenged(rare on his dopey show to be sure, but it does happen)on one of his ill-informed points, Maher’s standard reaction is to tilt his head back, chin in the air, and attempt an I’m-thinking-really-really-hard expression. Followed by stony silence. That’s his standard comeback-staring! Watch his show and you’ll see this move, I promise.

The Maher interview on AC360 was taped, presumably before Larry King aired. So no, Anderson Cooper did not challenge Maher on something that hadn’t happened yet.
