Bill O’Reilly Exposes Osama Bin Laden’s Influence On Belly Dancing

video

Haven’t you heard? The O’Reilly Factor is taping in Los Angeles this week, which has provided producers the opportunity to cover some less traditional subjects (and show some female skin on their program.) Factor producer Jesse Waters covered a belly dancing conference in Long Beach (for reasons that aren’t ever made clear.) He did note that the rise of belly dancing and interest in “Arabian culture” is a direct result of the 9/11 plot hatched by Osama bin Laden. Yes he really said that.

This should be a relief to Michelle Malkin’s maid. Next time Mad As Hell Michelle wants to do a report “live” from the Middle East, she can dress her maid in a bare midrift instead of a burqa.

I loved that segment, especially Californian’s “What, me worry?” attitude. The rest of the country should have that attitude regarding California’s $41 billion dollar budget deficit and impending bankruptcy.

On a more serious note, I wish we had marijuana dispensaries where I live. I know I’m getting overcharged, but what can you do? You gotta have it.

I previously lived in a college town, where the local university was all about math and pure science, so the student body was overwhelmingly male and huge number of their graduate students had security clearances because weapons and defense research had exploded after 9/11.

I was there post, but it was obvious that belly-dancing had been a big thing on campus and around town for a number of years. Because there were lots of demonstrations at pretty much every community gathering, I actually spent some time thinking about the phenomenon and my thoughts were that it was popular on that particular campus because it was something “voluptuous” women could do without fear of mockery.

  • Azarkhan

I’ve never understood criticism of voluptuous woman (e.g., Kate Winslet). What man wants a woman with a skinny ass?

@Azarkhan: I posted a quick link to my blog the other day about the growing number of caregivers and storefronts popping-up in and around Billings, Montana. So, though they may regulate a little more closely and from the quotes, I have to say that the dispensaries sound like they may be more responsible than the ones Waters referenced, but you wouldn’t have to move to California.

Bin Laden has a point. If you wrap women up from head to foot with only their eyes showing, that eliminates one guy telling another, “My girlfriend’s better looking than yours.”

  • Azarkhan

Magister-thanks! In Montana-I had no idea!

Marijuana should be legalized for anyone twenty-one or over. Let the state governments sell it and collect taxes off it.

PS: If you hear of anything a little further east, let me know.

OMG! The Filth of it all!!! Praise Geesussah!! Vote GOP!! Yeth!!

  • Scarletredwitch

Wow interesting to hear. I started belly dancing in 1971 when I was 23.. and my teacher who was from Chicago had been dancing for 20 years when I met her. Sometimes it is best to research a little more.

  • Scarletredwitch

Oh I forgot to mention, there is a belly dance festival in Seattle WA that has been going on for 23 years. Just a little before 9/11

  • Morocco

Omigod! The total voluntary ignorance of that sanctimonious twit O’Reilly. He’s a total disgrace to the great minds that Ireland has produced.

For his (the the rest of the world’s) information, the first people Osama bin MF would send to the wall are the ARTISTS – especially independent-thinking FEMALES, most especially ORIENTAL dancers (the correct translation in English for Raks Sharki, the FOLK & social dance of millions of people).

How do I know? I’ve only been doing/ RESEARCHING IN CULTURE/ teaching Raks Sharki & the related folk dances for over 50 years. From the mission statement of my 501 c) 3) organization & my website (http://www.casbahdance.org) :

“Today, in these increasingly dangerous and stressful times, it is more important than ever that we show the positive aspects of these cultures, in order to create bonds of understanding between our peoples, via their dances, music, etc., which are expressions of love and the universal soul of us all. These aspects – in fact ALL ARTS – are the very things that fanatics and terrorists would like to suppress and eliminate, along with the artists who create, produce and perform them.”

I guess for the odious O’Reilly ignorance is bliss.

    Morocco
    the person/ artist/ dance ethnologist
not the beautiful country, Morocco, which, by the way, was the very first country to recognize the newly declared United States of America after our revolution in 1776.

    DUH!!!

  • Samar

Thank you for sticking up for our art form, Morocco.

I am also a professional belly dancer. While many people are misinformed about belly dance and its origins and purpose, more often than not when I am asked about what I do people display a sense of curiosity and a willingness to learn more about it, and acknowledge that even though they have seen it they may not understand it. It is shocking to me that Bill O’Reilly and Jesse Waters would think that just because they have seen this art form performed and are viewing it from an American perspective, their conjectures about it must be correct. I’m especially appalled at Jesse Waters for going to a belly dance conference and still not appearing to have absorbed anything that the dancers at the conference told him about belly dance, and not having any information to back up what he said about it. I don’t think I’ve ever been more offended on behalf of our art form.

    Shame on you, Bill O’Reilly.

  • Facebook User

I agree shame on you.. not just Bill but the producer Jesse Waters!.. to be so uninformed and to disrespect all the hard work those of the early years have done for the dance.

I hope now they REALLY do a show on belly dance.. and set the record straight!

  • selayma

Rakkasah would be another point of reference for pre-9/11 . . . celebrating 30 years, and an international event since the 80′s . . .

Every sentence of sensationalized, deliberately misleading prevarications from Fox news, Waters, and O’Reilly highlights their ignorance of geography, cultures, music and Raks Sharqi. It also exposes their perverse thinking toward young girls. Instead of educating themselves, they look like ignorant dirty old men.

As a registered nurse I know their comments on marijuana dispensed in California was also inaccurate. At least they are consistent. The other news channels are celebrating.

  • Samiya

O’Reilly, that is so offensive it is beyond belief. Your complete ignorance of not only bellydance, but also Osama bin Laden is astounding.

If bin Laden had THAT much influence on us bellydancers, believe me, you’d die a horrible death in a suicide attack that resulted in a shower of blood, guts, sequins and beads.

As it is, all we do is dance!

    We are bellydancers:
Unlike Osama bin Laden, WE didn’t order the destruction of the WTC towers
Unlike Osama bin Laden, WE don’t accept women to be as important as any other person on the planet
Unlike Osama bin Laden WE LOVE America.
    Unlike Osama bin Laden….

Some of us BELLYDANCERS ARE AMERICANS!
WE have been around bellydancing longer than you’ve known his name!

However I am Australian, I LOVE America….. and I think you are a complete bloody ass!

  • Samiya

    that was supposed to be…

Unlike Osama bin Laden, WE accept women to be as important as any other person on the planet

    darn it grammar correction….you’re fired!

Are you one of my ex-wives? I was married to a belly dancer many years ago.

  • Tedderman

That O’Reilly, he never misses a chance to show scantily clad women on his show, does he? Hey, does he still have that loofah sponge?
