Fox & Friends: Sen. Dianne Feinstein Used Hand Notes In 1990

Earlier today we brought you one notable moment from Fox & Friends, in which they considered ObamaCare’s effect on Bill Clinton‘s health, but that wasn’t it for our Friends this time around. They also managed to keep Sarah Palin‘s Handgate rolling by interviewing George W. Bush‘s press secretary Dana Perino, condemning Robert Gibbsversion of the joke and comparing Palin’s hand notes to Sen. Dianne Feinstein‘s during a debate way back in 1990. Feinstein, though, was breaking the rules.

The almost-vintage footage comes complete with a highlight on Feinstein’s hand. But that’s only after they namedrop Mediaite in this action-packed clip. Check it out:

Who cares? Dianne Feinstein wasn’t on record for mocking the president for using a telestrator as was Palin.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bill-Adkins/1585417987 Bill Adkins

And to compare Dianne Feinstein with Airhead Sarah is like comparing Einstein to your aunt’s ill tempered chihuahua.

  • Azarkhan

Teleprompter. A telestrator is a device that allows its operator to draw a freehand sketch over a motion picture image.

What vintage about Sen Feinstein is that hair. Wow!

  • writer

Yes, that hair! And her makeup! And look at that dress. You’ve got to be kidding me. And those ear rings. What a train wreck! (I don’t really think all of that. Just wanted the lefties to know what it’s like reading their posts about Palin.)

  • Cactus

So Doucy name-drops Mediaite, but the CG credits Politico… hmmm?

Ultimately, all the manu-prompter did was take the air out of “retardgate”. I guess now we need someone else to flub so we can move on…

  • AikidoJoe

Ha! Such stupidity and completely against the rules of the debate and all that same2u can muster is that because Feinstein never said anything about the teleprompter it doesn’t matter. Complete and total shill. Even when liberal politicians get busted breaking the rules, they will never run out of useful idiots to defend them.

  • felixw

This tit-for-tat is a sad spectacle. But if the Democrats and the White House and their cheerleaders in the media are determined to engage in these paltry smear games, they do deserve to have them thrown back into their face. Or even into their teleprompter.

My advice to the Left. If you disagree with Sarah Palin, respond to her charges of bloated government, runaway deficits, etc., and prove that she’s wrong. And if you decide to play smear games instead, don’t be surprised if you get smeared back.

  • TfT

Ah yes, the good old standard double standard. It’s a-ok for a democrat to do this, but not for a republican. yawn and yawn some more. Anyone who compares having a few notes on your hand to reading a full speech off a teleprompter just doesn’t get it (and that includes the FNC hosts who make the same point).

BTW: Is FNC the only one who has reported on the Feinstein incident?

  • Moderate

Dianne Feinstein cheats by having a note on her hand in a debate and MSM ignores it. Bush has a crease in his coat and MSM thinks he is cheating.

  • mcf1757

    Foxnews is truly pathetic.

  • Azarkhan

    Liberal swine are truly pathetic.

  • mcf1757

I’m not going to call it news anymore its Fox entertainment, that’s what they are entertainment! They went back 20 years to dig up tape, to protect the sophomore governor, wow!

  • parakeeta

Um, the former half-term governor uses a teleprompter all the time. Funny, the wingnuts never talk about that.

  • MichelleF

    mcf1757,
According to a recent survey, MOST people think Fox is the most trusted name in news. Keep whining, but they aren’t going anywhere.

  • mcf1757

The sliver of american who watch fox entertainment do not represent the other 295 million!

  • MichelleF

And where do you get your news, mcf1757? Let me guess, from Keith Obermann.

I guess the difference between “protecting” and “reporting the truth,” is all the eye of the beholder. If you want to believe that Palin is bad, and uniquely so… you find this news of a similar occurrence offensive and “protecting.” If you have an interest in fairness and honesty… well, I guess the tape tells the tale.

Let’s see how many people can up with a rational for why this is different… when what they really want to say is, “I don’t like Palin, so I’m willing to be a hypocrite, if it means I can attack her.”

to borrow a line from Barry Levinson, I think I’m Not Blue may be more in need of a bl$w job than any white man in history.

I’m not trying to cast aspersions, but my guess is that in between masturbating to interracial porn and giving handjobs to homeless guys, I’m not blue spends his time spouting talking points and attacking posters here–as opposed to debating. Which is fine–I love interracial porn. But insult isn’t debate.

And I have no dog in the fight–but it appears from a brief scan of these comments that I’m Not Blue is a poser, a troll, an ONLINE tough guy, a keyboard jockey whose daily singular event is who he’s gotten into it while on the computer.

So on a night where I decided to relax and read, this is kinda fun for me, I can see where he likes it.

But he’s not saying anything. It appears he doesn’t want to debate, he’s a bully and punk.
He’s a hater that really needs either some concentrated love, intense therapy, or brown alcohol to kill the bugs up his (her?) ass.

come out , come out, wherever you are…

And what a classy fellow you’ve already turned out to be. I’m sure the rest of your post will be intelligent and well thought out.

    Ugh.

Just a quick question for you slk… you say that I’m someone who doesn’t debate, but insults. And to do that… you insult me, and don’t debate the thread topic. Now, why is it that you’ve decided to be SO hypocritical, SO ironic? Is it because you’re projecting yourself onto me… or is it because you simply don’t understand?

Strange that someone who is apparently so enraged by my post to mcf (which points out his/her hypocrisy in defending a certain politician, while attacking another, even though they’re “guilty” of the same offence), would do exactly what he/she is complaining about in response. Strange indeed.

  • slk

Wow–you just see into me, I’m Not True. Suddenly…I feel so close to you…hee.

I don’t know about all that projecting stuff. Your big words make head hurt.

You seem to love acting as if others are enraged by you…which I find adorable. My girlfriend’s Maltese does the same thing. I feel like she wants to seem that she has that effect on people. We humor her. She generally finds her chewy afterwards and relaxes…not a suggestion to you, I’m just sayin….

I have a free night. Surfing through here, it appears you insult rather than debate–so we can go round and round, I have some time.

Its humorous enough when anyone defends Steve Doofus and the ass-clowns on Fox and Friends–because at this point–WHO cares.

And if you truly find it strange, maybe because that was fhe f*&cking point, Loverboy.

So it appears you do have a “dog in the fight.” I wonder why you lied before. Oh well… I can honestly say I’m less than surprised.

Of course, you also missed the point. It’s easier to talk about FNC, then the actual issue they raise. But that’s what hacks do… attempt to distract when the truth becomes too much. Again, I remain less than surprised.

  • slk

Wow. You got me, Daddy. I can identify idiots on both sides of the argument. Which is why the irony have been lost on you.

It’s easy to talk about FNC because they MAKE it easy. The issue they raise is a stretch because they have to advance an agenda–and they reached back that far to do it. But I suppose you find them gospel. Thats ok, I’m a sinner, but I’ll still love you. And distraction is your bag, baby. Don’t get all new on me.

  • AikidoJoe

I love all the rationalization and excuse making even though that is video evidence of a politician cheating in a debate. You have to love people blinded by ideology.

  • Fidoohki

“Those blinded by their ideology usually get run over by it.” Don’t know who said it but it makes sense.

Can you please provide an acceptable time range, for which FNC can “look back?” Should they only talk about things that were 1 year ago… 4 years… 10 years… 15 years? What’s the acceptable limit?

  • Media Me

Oh, honestly. “She did it first, neener neener neener”. How typical of F+F to be so juvenile.

Yes, what Feinstein did was wrong. But anyone who points to that while defending hypocrite Palin for ragging on Obama for using a teleprompter (and she frequently uses one herself) on the same day she had to consult her palm prompter to answer a question about her top priorities (!!!) is as hypocritical as she is and as stupid as the klowns on the kurvy kouch.

  • puck30

So, let me get this straight.

It’s okay to mock, make fun of, a private citizen of a Conservative ilk for doing something we have all done.

But a sitting Senator of the liberal ilk who, ‘broke the rules’ of a debate by doing the same thing. You don’t go there!!!

14 years ago before there was an FNC, the left could get away with that. One word for ya baby!

    “BURN!”

In other words: I don’t like that they were able to show one of “my” guys doing that. Now I can’t call Palin names like, “Stupid” and “Dumb” and other schoolyard insults, because then I’d be doing the same for Feinstein. Darn you F+F, you took away my fun!

Yes, what Feinstein did was wrong.

Wrong? Really? Writing on your hand is “wrong?” Yeesh. Silly and perhaps unprofessional… but “wrong?” Those are apparently some pretty high standards.

But anyone who points to that while defending hypocrite Palin for ragging on Obama for using a teleprompter (and she frequently uses one herself) on the same day she had to consult her palm prompter to answer a question about her top priorities (!!!)

You of course realize the complaint or criticism of Obama isn’t that he “sometimes” uses the prompter… it’s that he OVER uses the prompter, even when he shouldn’t need one. Using a prompter is fine for a big speech… but a few short remarks, shouldn’t require one. It shows Obama can’t speak well off the cuff, or that he’s only the Reader-In-Chief… someone else is doing the thinking.

is as hypocritical as she is and as stupid as the klowns on the kurvy kouch.

    Huh?

I’mNotBlue says:”Can you please provide an acceptable time range, for which FNC can “look back?” Should they only talk about things that were 1 year ago… 4 years… 10 years… 15 years? What’s the acceptable limit?”

I’m going treat you as if you’re not a six-year-old, though you seem to be a petulant as one. The teleprompter criticism of Obama is a manufactured issue. You know it, I know it, and if you really take the issue seriously–if you really thinkg that as he writes his own speeches and actually thinks words and being precise MATTERS (i know, big change for you) makes him “reader-in-chief”–then you’re either a liar, a sheep, or a child. (My money is on some genetically engineered hybrid. Sexy…)

Palin was called out for her hypocrisy. Feinstein wasn’t making an issue about being a teleprompter president. But Fox couldn’t let that stand, so they dig up a clip which is unrelated to the charge being batted around–and they have to go 15 years back to do it–thinking “lets show one of their guys doing it”. Which, like you, missed the point.

You call me a thief. I pull out video of you stealing–which makes you a hypocrite. Then you put up video of someone I worked with stealing something. Doesn’t exactly track–and doesn’t help your charge about me. You follow me, Pumpkin?

First off, you’ve dodged, weaved, and made up stuff that I didn’t say. I’m not saying this because I’m surprised, just pointing it out.

Also, you didn’t answer my question about how many years is appropriate… but you restated you, “they had to go back,” claim. Please answer the question.

Palin was called out for her hypocrisy. Feinstein wasn’t making an issue about being a teleprompter president.

Of course the left was pointing to Palin’s “palm notes” as a sign or her intelligence. Suggesting this is all related to Palin’s comments about the prompter is false, and simply a new spin now that you’ve been caught. Either Palin AND Feinstein are dumb for using their hand, or not… making up a new rational isn’t fooling anyone.

You call me a thief. I pull out video of you stealing–which makes you a hypocrite. Then you put up video of someone I worked with stealing something. Doesn’t exactly track–and doesn’t help your charge about me. You follow me, Pumpkin?

Not even a little bit… your analogy is garbage at best. I’ll fix:

You call me a thief (I don’t deny it), and show a video of me stealing. You then speak about how foolish and bad my family must be for supporting, helping, and listening to me. But I then turn around and show a video of someone in your family stealing. Now you’re a hypocrite… you attacked me for being a thief, and criticized my family, while someone from your family has done the same. At this point, you could walk away a hypocrite… or stay around, and try to change the story and hope nobody notices the diversion.

See… now it works… but sadly, it doesn’t make you any less wrong.

  • puck30

Well for all my friends on the left, time for you to throw everything you have been saying about Palin’s ‘Hand-Gate’ out.

New thought orders have come down from the mighty Frank Rich at the liberal Bible New York Times.

“Yet the laughter rang hollow. You had to wonder if Palin, who is nothing if not cunning, had sprung a trap. She knows all too well that the more the so-called elites lampoon her, the more she cements her cred with the third of the country that is her base. Her hand hieroglyphics may not have been speaking aids but bait.”

“If so, mission accomplished. Her sleight of hand gave the anti-Palin chorus another prod to deride her as an empty-headed, subliterate clown, and her fans another cue to rally. The only problem is that the serious import of Palin’s overriding political message got lost in this distracting sideshow. That message has the power to upend the Obama presidency — even if Palin, with her record-low approval ratings, never gets anywhere near the White House.”

And when you read the rest you know this ain’t coming from no right wing guy.

It’s great! She drives em’ crazy.

    I’mNotBlue,

What Feinstein did was wrong because she was cheating in a debate. I am not defending Feinstein.

Palin is a hypocrite, plain and simple. She uses teleprompters. She writes on her hand. And then she rags on President Obama for using prompters. I write on my hand sometimes too but unlike Sarah Palin I don’t then turn around and diss someone else for doing it. I couldn’t give a flying f*** if Palin writes on her hand. What is wrong is the hypocrisy of criticizing someone else for the same things she does.

And as far as the “Obama overuses a prompter” thing, may I remind you all that he kicked Republican butt in that meeting a few weeks ago where he let them grill him, to the point where it was reported that Republicans said afterwards that they wish it hadn’t been televised by C-Span. And not a prompter in sight.

The notion that “someone else is doing the thinking” because President Obama uses a prompter is utterly ridiculous and does not logically follow. That is simply a bizarre and unfounded assertion.

And Puck30 – “Sarah Palin is a private citizen”?? What are you smoking?! She sees herself as a figurehead of the tea parties, a potential candidate for President, and lets Fox install an entire studio in her house, and you’re going “oh you libs are so unfair picking on a private citizen”? Puh-leeeeeze!

I see a note on the sidebar that Michael Savage sez Palin is unelectable. I love it. The right eat their own!

Frank Rich got one thing right: any suggestion that Palin isn’t a political genius has the wingnuts responding like Pavlov’s dogs.

Palin/Beck 2012! Run, Sarah, run! (Oh please God, oh please oh please oh please…)

What Feinstein did was wrong because she was cheating in a debate. I am not defending Feinstein.

That’s fine… was it during a debate where no notes were allowed? I’m not sure of the situation.

Palin is a hypocrite, plain and simple. She uses teleprompters. She writes on her hand. And then she rags on President Obama for using prompters.

Okay, again… the issue isn’t that he uses the prompter… it’s that he OVER-uses the prompter… that he’s robotic, and can’t speak without it. The criticism suggests he no more than a news anchor, reading the script, looking at the camera, and not remembering or knowing what he said 5 minutes afterwards. There IS a difference.

I write on my hand sometimes too but unlike Sarah Palin I don’t then turn around and diss someone else for doing it.

I hate to ask the obvious… but aren’t you doing that now?

And not a prompter in sight.

Not a bad rebuttal to the criticism. But again, there’s a difference in using that as a rebuttal, and saying that Palin’s hand equates to a teleprompter.

That is simply a bizarre and unfounded assertion.

    Merely explaining the common criticism.

For me, I think he wants to appear polished at all points… avoid gaffes at all costs. On the one hand, that’s good… on the other hand, it’s made him sound wooden and affectless. Sometimes, it’s better to come across like you’re speaking TO the public, not AT the public… and constantly using the prompter will do that to you. It’s like the Obama criticism from the left… they want him to get angry. He’s too calm, too in control. And it sometimes appears that because of this, he doesn’t care as much as he should.

For the record… IMO, Palin looked unprofessional using her hand as a note pad. I grew out of that phase in middle school. But it isn’t necessarily an indication of anything more substantive than that. It’s not hypocritical of her, it doesn’t mean she’s dumb… just less polished then perhaps we want our politicians to be.

and lets Fox install an entire studio in her house,

We discussed this the other day… and came to the conclusion, it’s not a big deal… except for those who want to make political hay over it. The “studio,” is probably no more than an uplink satellite, a few lights, camera, and background. In other words, essentially a more powerful webcam. When you realize that Palin lives some 40 miles from the closest major television studio… it’s less than surprising. Just makes fiscal sense.

As for Savage’s comments… he might be right. But as long as Palin is out drawing the attention and ire from the loons on the left… they’re not focusing on other things perhaps more important. Destroying Palin is priority number one for them… but it’s going to come at a cost. They’ll be so busy attacking her, that when the eventual Republican candidate immerges, they’ll be caught unaware. The same thing happened with the right and Hillary Clinton… once they ended her presidential bid, they didn’t have enough prepared to hit Obama. Continue to attack Palin at your own peril.
