Golden Globes Begins As It Should: With Two Minutes Of Technical Difficulties
The Golden Globes are an awards show that’s been haunted by corruption allegations, bizarre nomination choices, and the fact that its only real reason to exist (being a presumed Oscar prognosticator) has been usurped by other awards shows organized by seemingly every critics’ organization on the planet. So, it seems only fitting that its telecast tonight would begin with the kind of highly respectable material it deserves; with a couple of minutes of technical difficulties.
And people worry that Ricky Gervais making a couple jokes will somehow hurt the Globes’ reputation…
Yes, once the news ended and NBC cut to the broadcast’s red carpet show, television viewers were treated to about 90 seconds of silence, beeping noises, and audio from some kind of commercial. I’d complain but, really, does anyone watching the Golden Globes red carpet really want to hear what the celebrities have to say?
